Nokia 6102i Problems

I've noticed a couple programmed problems with my new Nokia 6102i.

Anyone else out there have some answers to help???

1. When my flip is closed, and I want to NOT answer a call, I can hit the VOLUME DOWN button to silence the ringer, but can not send the caller immediately to voice mail (ie: when the flip is open, I can silence the ringer using the RIGHT soft key, then hit the same key again to send the caller immediately to VM). Is there a way to do this with the flip closed?

2. With the flip closed, I use the VOLUME DOWN button to (hopefully) decrease the ringer volume. Even if I turn it all the way down, that does nothing to my ringer volume. It only decreases my ear volume! Everyone else find this to be true. How do ya turn down...

Incidentally, with regard to question Number Two, I got the following answer from an email directly to NOKIA tech support:

You cannot adjust the ringing volume while the fold is closed. You may adjust the ringing volume by following the steps bellow:

Menu > Settings > Profiles > Normal > Customize > Ringing Volume

That's really terrible. So, I'm gonna walk into a meeting and instead of turning down the volume of my phone's ringer fromt he outside, I'm gonna open it and hit: Menu > Settings > Profiles > Normal > Customize > Ringing Volume

Oh, well, that's easy enough (NOT!).

I think I'm taking this thing back this week. Maybe for a MOTO V557 or a RAZR (unless a bunch of you out there talk me out of those telling me I'm crazy!...

An easier way to adjust the volume is to add the Meeting profile to your "Go To" shortcut menu (bottom left corner of the screen). This way, all you have to do is open the flip and do the following:

Go To >> Meeting >> Select

As for switching to the v557 or RAZR, I just got rid of the v400 (very similar to the v557) and I like the way this Nokia can be a lot more customized (the menu settings). The RAZR is a very comparable phone, but many of the guys I work with have it and they complain about their own things. So, any which way you go, you're going to find problems. I personally like the 6102i a lot. Granted, there are some things that could be improved, but for the most part it's a pretty good, solid phone.

I ordered it from Cingular.com when I upgraded my plan. The week after I got it, the price dropped to $10 after rebate which Cingular matched.

My old Moto V180 would only adjust the ring volume when the phone was open (button on side) does the Nokia do that? Did you try that?

No, I open the phone and press Go To then the main (Select) button and close the phone. (Two clicks as I walk in the doorway.) Learn to place your speed commands in Go To.

Good luck on that. Maybe they'll sell you a refurb of my wife's that has to have the battery removed everyday to reset the phone to work. 😉

Hi,

I fooled around with my phone and found if I pressed that long outside silver volume button on the top left side, once, it stopped the ringing noise, but didn't disconnect the call!

Everything you say is about how mine works. However, I don't have a problem with it. I have mine set to NOT answer upon opening. So, for a direct send to my VM, I quickly open it and hit the right speed button twice then pop it back closed. I can do this without taking my eyes off my client.
