On the Motorola i580, once an mp3 has been downloaded can you use that as a rigntone? If not, must you buy the ringtone or can one in a different format be used and how do you do it?

Hi:

Based upon a conversation I had with a Nextel Rep., it seems that this phone won't accept MP3's as a ring tone. How Motorola could engineer a phone that was limited to this format for ringtones is beyond me!

This device won't play MP3s as ring tones. It is simple enough to convert MP3s to .wavs. Go to download.com and search Goldwave. I make all my own ringtones. Get yourself a MobileMate SD card reader to transfer the files easily.

Coming late to this but is there need to be anything special about the .wav files? Pics, mp3, videos are going fine it's just my .wav files are not read.

I was thinking maybe there's a bit depth or sample rate thing I'm missing (?). I tried exporting a file to .wav at 8 bits and it didn't see that either.

Anyone?
