I haven't been using my ROKR E2 as an MP3 player yet because I don't have a "big enough" SD card (it arrives tomorrow) but last night I plugged the phone into my stereo to amuse myself, and IT DIDN'T WORK!!! It just played the songs through the speakerphone. Then I tried plugging it into my computer speakers and that didn't work either! Then I did some googling and found this:

To our surprise and horror, the Rokr punted when asked to drive a car- or home-stereo's line-in jack, falling back on its tiny, tinny built-in speakerphone speaker after about half a second. This seems like a serious failing, since every other portable stereo device we've ever used could easily be plugged ...

I own one and do not have any problems playing the music through any speaker sytem I attach to the headphones the only thing it doesn't seem to like is playing the radio via it's internal speaker, always asks for the heaphones to be attached for the radio to work which I thought was a bit strange? . . .but I am still pleased with phone over all I'm going to sell my ipod once I get my high capacity SD card for it 😁

Phones use the wire in the headphones as an antenna for the radio. So far I haven't seen a phone that lets you use the radio w/o plugging in headphones.

What stereo systems have you plugged your phone into? I have some Altec Lansing computer speakers and it doesn't work with those, and I have a Sony home theater receiver with a RCA-to-3.5mm cable that I bought and it doesn't work with that either. My old 64 MB flash MP3 player I bought years ago works with both.

It's true. I got around this by using a Y-cable. In one side I have the earbuds (to provide the proper impedance and make the phone switch to the headphone jack) in the other side I plug it into my car stereo, home theater system, etc...

Not elegant, but it works. Of course the mic doesn't work since the y-cable doesn't have 4 contacts, only 3.

I believe motorola fixed this problem with their latest download to the rokr e2. Just received mine yesterday and it seems to work with external speakers and with my line in to my audio system. Also any headphone seems to engage the FM feature not just the headset that was supplied with the phone
