Need help with T-Mobile Web

Gern Blanston

Mar 27, 2006, 2:16 PM
Per a thread on this forum, I added the $5.99 T-Mobile web service: I just selected the Razr as my phone on T-mobile's website, and I added it.

I'm having trouble accessing the service beyond the initial T-Mobile home page. When I'm at a Hotspot, I'm able to log in, but I can't access anything past that: no email, no internet, can't view my bill, etc. I've read T-Mobile's help files for setting up my connections and email, and I believe that I've followed them as written.

What's my next step? Customer Service? Will they just tell me that my SDA doesn't support this service?

Any help would be appreciated.

Whoa, hold it there. T-MobileWeb is WAP browsing over GPRS, and has nothing to do with Hotspots (WiFi). Or are you referring to the current promotion where prepaid voice users get to use Hotspots for free on weekends?

Back to GPRS. Having T-MobileWeb means you have to use T-Mobile's proxy for all sites, WAP and HTTP. On the SDA it me...

Thanks for your help.

I meant the GPRS connection rather than Hotspots: I was confused.

Can you tell me how to set up these entries for GPRS? I've done a lot of searching, but I can't find a good answer.

Thanks again.

I don't have the WAP plan. I have the $20/month VPN plan which I did my testing with. I think what I am about to describe should work for you, but YMMV.

As shipped, the phone has one GPRS entry called 'T-Mobile GPRS'.

Since you need to go through T-Mobile's proxy server for all network connections, you can simply change its 'Connects to' setting to 'WAP Network', and create in the proxy section an entry that 'Connects from' 'WAP Network' and 'Connects to' 'The Internet'. The proxy address is 216.155.165.50. Type is WAP. User name and password are not used. Then in Mobile IE, go to Menu->Tools->Options->Connections, disable auto detect, and select 'The Internet' as the 'network'. Also if you have other GPRS connections set up (wh...

Thanks so much for your help!

I think that I'm almost there. Instead of getting an "incorrect configuration" message, I'm getting a "page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80168001" when trying to access the preinstalled favorites like CNN or ESPN.

Is access supposed to work wherever I'm able to get a GPRS signal?

Thanks again!

Has anyone managed to make this work? I am considering switching to T-Mobile and buying the SDA. Having web access on my phone is worth $6/mo to me, but not $20/mo.
