Wireless Synch through Verizon

GLT

Jun 8, 2006, 6:53 AM
I have not been able to synch my Outlook successfully through Verizon Wireless Synch. The program would not install thru the path "Use Outlook to Retrieve My Email" as it could not locate a file *.msi. I can retrieve my e-mail but not achieve 2 way synch with Outlook. I am waiting for technical support to call me back. Has anyone successfully set this up?

I set it up yesterday. It works well but it is still not real time. If anyone knows a better way, then I'm all ears.

To set up wireless sync:
You have to go online to www.wirelesssync.vzw.com and set up an account. If you ever used vtext.com, then your username and password will be the same.

When you setup a mail account, select "get my emails for me" and fill out ur info. Then on your phone, go to 'wireless sync' and it will ask you to log into your account. That's it.

It works like a charm but something I dont like is that It only checks emails every 15 mins and you cannot check email on demand. The only way I found to be able to do this is to use IE on my Q and log on to wirelesssync.vzw.com and do a send/receive online.

wirelesssync is push. There is no 15 min increment to download new messages. They arrive within 30 seconds. You need to set it up to "PUSH"

Mine is sorta working. It sends e-mail out ASAP, but I seem only get mail every 15 minutes. Where is the setting change? Is it on my phone or the vzw site?

You guys are actually BOTH correct.

Using wireless sync, the Verizon server sends e-mail from Verizon's wireless sync server to the Q without delay.

HOWEVER... the Verizon wireless sync server only polls your POP3 account every 15 minutes for new messages.

So, in essence, there actually is a 15 minute delay to receive new messages.

If you want to receive your messages sooner - you can configure the MOTOROLA POP3 client (Start->messaging->outlook->Settings->New Account....etc.) This will enable you to use "Menu-> Send/Receive" whenever you like - but you'd have to be aware of new messages in order to "Pull" them on demand. The other option is to set the Motorola client to check for new mail every 15 minutes - but then you're ...

You need to do what Microsoft tells you not to do. Go into Internet Options in IE and turn on all Active X and Java to D/L the Wireless Sync MSI. Then after you are done you can set it back to default. Or just put your security to LOW.

I would use POP on the Web PIM over PC Monitor, you have to keep your PC on all the time. If you turn it off you can not get or send email. The PC Monitor is only good if you want your contacts and calendar to sync via wireless.

Many thanks, Verizon technical support could not answer this question. The more I see about this I think that I will just have Comcast polled every hour and synch my Oulook with a USB cable.

Remember if you use MONITOR, you will LOOSE calander input prior to 31 days, and IT WILL WIPE YOUR OUTLOOK PST FILE.
There is also a chance you can Dupe contacts.

!!!!!!!!!!! MAKE A CURRENT PST BACK UP FIRST !!!!!

You'll kiss me later!!!

Smart money says ONLY have monitor sync PUSH e-mail amd DOCK the Q for your calander and contacts. UNCHECK everything except your e-mail and you can then use Active sync via USB to get the rest... later in your day. The risk of data loss ain't worth it.
