a data plan allows u kilobyte usage for a smaller price. U dont need a data plan u can choose pay as u go. But if u plan on browsing internet this allows you to a certain amoount of data usage and a smaller cost. Thhhis does not effect text messaging and the only thing it will affect in ur family plan is a little bit of a higher price depending upon the data plan u choose. Hope this helps.

you can get your two year "thingy" with the Q even if you don't get a data plan. But if you plan to do anything on your phone that calls for data usage (sending and recieving pictures, checking email, accessing documents, or using your device as a modem) get the unlimited data package. If you don't plan on using that much then they have a 10 Mb plan for a little cheaper price, but if you don't plan on using it that much why get a PDA?

Why not ask the thousands of users who bought non-connected PDA's before smartphones came along (or still do)? There are plenty of uses for a PDA device without needing internet connectivity.
