Q v. Treo 700w

Ok, I've looked over what I could find here and elsewhere regarding these two devices, and I'm not finding a lot of helpful discussion versus pre-launch speculation.

I need to make a decision, and I want forum input. Yes, I am part of the 710 settlement and need to pick a phone now meaning I'm going to have to get the treo, but the question will be should I keep it. If I ultimately want the Q, I'll have time my treo purchase just right so I can return it with in the 15 day window.

So far I only see two advantages in the Q - the first is size. The second is the screen resolution, but then again I think the screen is ultimately smaller than the Treo (and yes, there is a 700p with an increased resolution if you want the Palm OS).

Wh...

I think there are some earlier posts that do a good job comparing the two.

As for me - even if size were the only advantage - that would be good enough for me.
The treo is 50% heavier than the Q (6oz vs 4oz) and nearly 2x as thick (.9in compared to .47")

I would never try to fit a Treo in my jean's pocket on a Saturday night... but I think I can actually do this with the Q.

I've been dying for a phone that allows me to have ALL my info (contacts, calendar) and that allows me to effectively manage e-mail and use a QWERTY for text messages, but still allows me not to look like a geek when I'm out for drinks.

(who am I kidding - the fact that I am on this website clearly makes me geek no matter how big my phone is 👀

The Treo 700 is a 2 handed phone, If your a driver or dont always sit at your desk. Get the Q. The Q has the thumbwheel and no touchscreen , it wqill operate much better in busy situations. For Example the Treo 700 needs the stylus to highlight copy n paste, where as with the Q the thumbwheels does all and its faster to do it.

Im getting thee Q all because the size and the thumbwheel. The Stylus at the Aiport cool factor is overrated to me. The Q wins.. Now if they just add Blackberry RIM software to the Q i doubt ill ever buy a new phone because im not enbtirely happy with the MS 5. Plus the Treos soft reset every 4 hours is garbage.

Rather than compare one device I have (the 700w) and one I don't (the Q), let me just say that the Treo is horribly unstable. It freezes a minimum of twice a day on me. The voice command software just stopped working and a hard reset hasn't cured it (I think it was the Palm "upgrade"). The keyboard sucks. It's bulky. The battery life is mediocre at best.

Run screaming from the Treo. Whether the Q meets your needs will remain to be seen. I am going to try it. If I don't like it, I will just use my Blackberry until the next round of devices. The Treo is an expensive paperweight for me at this point.

From what I have heard, these were issues that were fixed in the phones that shipped with the update, but some people have had issues where they had to update the phones "out in the wild."

Something about memory leaks and the like, but I know people with the 700 that don't seem to have to reset constantly and don't have battery issues - I don't doubt you do have those issues, but I wonder if I would if I got the phone now.

Maybe someone with a very recently ordered 700w can update.

heres my take

the Q = Windows Mobile for Smartphones
the 700w = Windows Mobile for Pocket PCs

it'll depend which is right for you.
the Q is going to be a great phone with a lot of extra options but lacks some functionaly that "pocket PCs" have. As examples the abilty to edited documents on the phone is missing you can only view.. another is the lack of touch screen.. although some people will argue with it. this limits the Q in many aspects.

as for the 700w well its buggy..soft resets and so on. but its a data first device. so you get more funtions out of like the abilty to edit a document.

so just goto microsoft's mobile site and look at the differences in OS's this is where you will be able to decide which device y...
