Been watching this thread for months. I WANT this phone, but I have concerns about the service from Verizon... I travel domestically and on ocassion to europe and asia.

Can someone point me to a site that might give me a good sense of the pros / cons of Verizon's service, including their broadband capabilities as compared to the competitors?

Thanks!

I have been a Verizon customer for 17 years. I have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. Mexico and Canada and their phone service, coverage, and voice quality is the best. I can't speak specifically about broadband, but here is the U.S. with EV-DO it should be great.

The phone will not work in Europe, but there are a number of Asian countries that it will work in. I will be buying this phone as soon as it becomes available.

Brafdesp I'm not sure if you'll find an unbiased site that will tell you the differences between VZW and the other carriers.. First off who do you have as a carrier now and where do you live? next how often do you travel to Europe & and do you need your phone while your there or are you ok with a possible rental?

Now if you can live with out your cell when in Europe then VZW is one of the best carriers out there. The Domestic Coverage is Greater than all the other carriers out there. I know this can be argued but this has been my experience, I've been with Sprint, ATT, VZW, & Tmobile and so far VZW has been the best in overall US coverage. VZW broadband(EVDO) has one of the largest footprints in the USA. I use Broadband with my PDA bl...

Thanks for the tips guys...

I currently use Alltel, a growing provider with heavy footprint here in North Carolina where I live... I travel extensively throughout the East and South Central (Dallas, NYC, Boston, Chicago, etc.) and when I roam, I actually think I might be on the Verizon network?

Anyway, previously I had a horrible experience with AT&T...

One more issue for me... I own a lake house about 1 hour north of Raleigh (where I live)... I found AllTel to be the only provider that had decent coverage over this area. In summers I'm at the lake house nearly every weekend and some weekdays, so I need to be able to keep on working... This may be a situation where no carrier besides Alltel will be ablel to help me out.

if you give vzw the address of you lake house they can verify coverage. They have an enternal map tool which is very good to check coverages. Alltel and VZW do share a lot of towers, but it also looks like alltel and Sprint are now sharing also. If you want to use the contact tab in my profile and provide me you lake house area and I can check coverage for you
