Question about using e-mail

I noticed that most of the e-mail instructions in the user guide relate to server based Outlook synchronization for corporations.

I was wondering - can you simply use this phone effectively to check POP3 accounts (ie: Yahoo or Hotmail?)
If so - can you use "folders"? For instance, if my Yahoo account has "Inbox", "Saved", etc. can I effectively synchronize on a folder by folder basis (ignoring some folders, like "Bulk Mail") and get my messages to my phone?

If I do this - can it also be done in conjunction with server based exchange synchronization?

If you look at the users manual (the link to it is posted around) it appears you can at least sync with Hotmail.
