N80 for Cingular

knvinvest

Does anyone know exactly when this might be released for Cingular? Hope shizane101 is reading this. Your forum postings have been very helpful to me.

I am debating between this N80 or the Palm Treo 650. I know the N80 is a 3G phone and PDA/Smartphone and the Palm 650 is Edge only (I hear the 3G version for the Treo is coming out in October)....so I'm deciding which phone I should go with...

I've always been a big Nokia fan....

Any info and advice would be helpful...

Thanks,

also keep in mind that the treo doesn't have wifi and i personally think the treo's keypad SUCKS... Im not so sure that cingular will actually get this nokia phone... they couldn't even handle the V3i lol... anyways - Its what do you like and don't like in a phone, the n80 has been great, and ur timing isn't far off because you can get a n80 from the nokia's website hopefully within the next week, and if you dont care about 3g capabilities, you can always get the version right here and right now with UMTS 2100 instead, which isn't exactly a US version. Some helpful reviews are available on this specific site as well as if you just google the n80, you will find stuff from mobileburn and engadget and random other sites that i found actually ha...

Thanks for the feedback.....This helps.

The more I think "logically" about it, I think the N80 is probably a much better phone overall. The Treo is a nice looking phone, but average in functionality. Just looking on Nokia's website and looking at the features this phone has and is capable of, it's truly worth the money. I'll check their website and try to call the store in Chicago....

I don't want to burst your bubble but i was just in the same position as you are now the other week and decided to go with the N80. I work about 4 blocks from the Nokia store and reserved one of the N80's and N93's. I received the N80 last tuesday and have had it for a week now and must say that it is not living up to its expectations. I do have to give it a 10 for looks and design and for having the latest features but it is a big set back for it to not be the US version. The reps at the Nokia store told me that their is a bid up right now for 2100 but one of my friends at Cingular says that they have not heard any plans to switch from 1900. I am going to return the phone this week becasue i cannot justify $653.00 after tax for a phone that...

True, the 2100 is no good on cingular, but that's just with respect to their 3G network, and has ZERO effect on your ability to use the EDGE/GPRS network, which is just the data side of the voice network you would be talking on. That's the beauty of the phone being a quadband GSM phone, it'll talk and roam, and download any type of data packet over the network regardless of where you live in the world - with the exception of where you live and the specific EDGE network. EDGE is in fact only available in specific areas/regions where the towers have recieved the "enhancements" - hence the name EDGE for EGPRS instead of just plain GPRS. There are NO limitations on the phone no matter if it is a "US" version and/or the "EURO" version with the pu...

oh.. and a quick add-on to what i said earlier - 3 HUGE pluses of the N80, well i guess if you value these 3 things as i know i do = the screen resolution is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, crystal clear and easily maintained. Webbrowsing is sweet as well. The text is fit on the width of the screen even though they are able to maintain "real" web-browsing (watch the video review, its darn cool). Lastly, especially since i have the pearl black color - the n80 is just plain good looking. In fact, it's one of the few phones that maintain a high-style, sophisticated look as well as looking BAD A$$. I personally, and personally mind you, not speaking for everyone and leaving myself open to wide criticism and cross referencing- I personally think the N80 i...

No, none of these questions are ignorant... lol no worries. Ok, now if and when you buy the phone, here are some things to consider as well as be able to tell which "version" the phone is. You will most likely save money if you buy from ebay, but keep in mind there arent guarantees on the product, there will be no warrantee, nothing. Im not saying there are no such thing as good purchases out there on ebay, ive had a couple myself, its just considering the risks involved and the lack of warrantee, implied or claimed or not. You will pay more money, but will walk out the door with confidence knowing you have the "real" guaranteed waranteed device. Now that the phone has been in circulation and you're not buying like pre-release phones or what...

strangerthanfiction48,

Question on the WiFi capabilities on this phone - does that mean that if I'm at a WiLAN hotspot (like Starbucks), the download speed is at the speed of broadband (DSL) type? Forgive me if I'm getting the terminology incorrect or seem ignorant in my questions.....

Thanks,

By the way, WHO IN THE WORLD MAKES A 6MP CAMERA PHONE FOR CINGULAR!? i've heard of no such thing... i looked on their site just to find out and they have no phone available with a 6 megapixel camera - in fact, i didnt even think there was a 6mp camera available on ANY phone.

I should have made myself clearer by saying a nice 3g phone + (a separate) 6 MP camera such as sony. Last night i did see a new phone with a 5 MP camera built in which is the KG920 but the look is not as sleek.

I also understand that Cingular does not have an "Extensive" 3G network but they do have full coverage in my area of Chicago and the suburbs where i live and i still cannot justify the price for p...

"Ever hold a ten megapixel cameraphone? Naw, neither had we, not until today anyway. Straight from the floor at CeBIT, we've got the Samsung SCH-B600 with an integrated 10 megapixel shooter. It's never gonna come anywhere close to the US or Europe so nuzzle up to your monitor real close-like and take in this beauty. Click on for more pics." - Engadget Mobile

Directly taken from the site you just posted... good luck assuming its coming to cingular

By the way kinvest -- i replied to all your questions, but it was a reply to your first question... not like the last post or whatever, so sorry i did it retarded but i explained it in detail for you. If you have any other questions feel free to post a reply or just email me.
