Finally bought the N80 with WCDMA 2100 - waiting for delivery

Well guys I've given up on playing the waiting game for Nokia to release the UMTS 1900 version. I figured 3G won't be available from Cingular until September here in the Kansas City, MO area anyway. Here is the plan I've got in mind. If and when the U.S. N80 phone is released, I'll just sell mine on Ebay. Granted, I'll be competing with WCDMA 1900 phones, but if I sell to Europeans they'd want the 2100 version anyway. I figure I'll be able to get a discounted N80 phone from Cingular since I'm not asking for my discount phone now. So in theory, I'm hoping the sale on Ebay and the cost of a subsidized phone from Cingular will come out to be a wash. Of course, I'm sure I'll loose a couple hundred selling it used if the N80 comes out in a...

Well, you might not appreciate this news: http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/N80/0,7747,,00 .html (WCDMA 1900 only). I just noticed it today. I already went ahead and purchased the WCDMA 2100 version. But I live in New Hampshire so I probably won't be seeing 3G for a while. I doubt there will ever be a W80 version for Cingular since they want phones to include WCDMA 850 as well. But the version I have suits me just fine. I get very fast responce on EDGE for what I currently use the phone for (mostly email). And I am using it on the Cingular Network (GSM/EDGE). So I think I will get as much use out of this phone as I can, and hope the rumors about the N83 are true and that Cingular will carry it.

Nice. I kid you not, before I made the last post, I was able to add it to my shopping cart, not it went back to "Coming Soon". Apparently it has done that before too.

Man, that would have sucked! I couldn't copy and past that web address fast enough to read the article. That is really weird how the site was different for a short time. Out of curiousity, do you remember what the price was?

dgibson, do you mind posting any accessories or software you've downloaded that you've deemed worthy? In fact I'd like to hear from anyone who owns one of these. I've already started my hunt on the net for good 3rd party software and accessories.

One more thing... I'm coming from a Palm phone and I'm not sure what the best method is to get all of my contacts, memo pad, and calendar information on this phone.

I never had any intention on buying the US model since I just purchased it through plemix. But I periodically check the site to see if they have any software updates, accessories, or setting chages, etc. If memory serves me right, right were they had the coming soon section, there was the option to add the phone to your cart. And I think it was $599. I wouldn't take the dollar value to heart, some web developer could have just punched in some numbers to test things, figuring nobody would be viewing the page at the time. Maybe its a sign that they are getting close to releasing it though.

For accessories, I have the Nokia BT Keyboard. It works good and the software is already installed with the phone. So no need to install it from the incl...

I really appreciate you taking the time to give me detailed information. I have both Outlook and Outlook Express. I'll try this option first. If not, I do have IR functionality on my Samsung I500. I didn't even think of using that!

Funny you mention the Psiloc remote. This was one of the first apps I was wanting since I've got a universal remote control program on my I500 now. It always a good joke 😁 . The one accessories I for sure would like to get is the freedom mini keyboard http://freedominput.com/mainsite/index.php?op tion=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=30 ,but I've been told by the manufacturer that they have not tested it on the N80. I thought this would be nice since it looks like it can be pocketable. I'm worried ...

Thanks for the info. It seems that Plemix has the best on-line price. Please let us know whether they were efficient sellers and you were satisified with their service. I am going to purchase and not wait any longer so I have to decide from whom now.

Thanks

I don't recall having any issue with them (Plemix). The phone I received from Plemix was sealed and imported from Hong Kong. So they threw in a US power adapter. I believe it has UK English, so if you're in the US, there are a few minor differences but nothing I couldn't really look past or tweak (such as date format).

Plemix isnt always cheaper when you include shipping. There shipping rates start at $30 which brings there prices up to about the same as www.mobilebee.com, who offer a free shipping rate.
