I travel the world on business (mostly on US Navy ships). and I need to know if I can access the internet or IM / check e-mail while I am hindreds of miles from the nearest land. Also. would I get a huge ammount of interference from all the metal on the skin of the ship?

From my experience being on navy ships out in the middle of nowhere... you will not have a chance at getting signal... with the e61 you get wi-fi... so, that will give you the ability to connect to a local wireless network if they have that set up.. Doubtful, but maybe you can slip one of the navy IT guys a couple bucks and he could set you up one...
All that metal would def. cause interference... If there was a wireless network, it would not broadcast for beans... maybe 100ft. max...
Hope this helps....

I remember back when i was in.. we had iridium cell phones ( satellite phones) that we used.. and even those were hit/miss... good luck.
