So is there any downsides to the d820? Like is there something the t809 has that's better then the d820

It's actually the other way around. The d820 allows more customization of the phone because of the lack of the T-Mobile software/branding that is put on the t809. There has been a ton of information regarding t809 owners flashing their phones to d820 software on howardforums.
