Voice Lists/Text Mssg Sound Alerts

Does anyone know how to set a recording in the Voice List as a ring tone? The User Guide says it can be done but when I try it doesn't work.

Also, can I set my text message sound alerts to a downloaded file. Am I forced to choose only from the preset melodies already on the phone? I pretty much want to put a clip of an mp3 as my text message sound alert.

Appreciate any help.

I've been going through forums like crazy for about a week now trying to figure the same thing out and as far as I or anyone else can tell, you have to use the preset ones.
