Easier way to do MP3 ringtones

As everyone knows with this phone, when you are trying to select a mp3 format ringtone that you either pirated from internet or ripped from computer it will be greyed out. I know an alternative way to use mp3 without going through the hassel of reformatting it to 3gp (which will make the song sound like crap).

1. Put the mp3 song on your phone
2. Go to incoming call settings
3. Select ringtone to see all available
4. Find song you want as ringtone (do nothing yet)
5. Highlight the selected song
6. Click middle select button to mark song (even though it will not allow you to this, the step if a must)
7. Press back button
8. Press save.
9. Go back and check your incoming call and it should be whichever song you highlighted.

I just did this and it really does work! Very creative! Way to go! Go ahead and spread the word around. Now, the only drawback is that the MP3 file is larger than the 3gp file, so it takes up more space. Other than that, wonderful.... What an interesting trick!

Nice!

I really haven't been listening to mp3's on the phone because I'm waiting to get a 1 gb card.
Is there that big of a difference in sound quality between the 3gp and mp3?

So this will only work for the main ringer and not for specific caller ringers, right?

I have actually never tried it for specific people. Anyone have their phone on them that can try it out with same steps? I don't see why it wouldn't work.

So I can't seem to get this. I put mp3 on the phone and they were greyed out. The step of saving anyway mentioned earlier in a thread didn't work for me. I converted the mp3 to .3gp and they were easy to assign as ring tones (didn't sound too different). BUT, I assigned ring tones for specific callers, but no matter who calls, the phone uses the main ringer. This seems like the main incomming call setting overrides any other ring tones. Anyone got some advice on that? Thanks,

I've tried to follow it but still not setting. I did save the song to the phone. Here's the exact steps I did after that. I'm going to Mickey Mouse this in case I am doing something wrong: MENU, SETTINGS, SOUND SETTINGS, INCOMING CALL, RING TONE, MUSIC, song i want, CENTER SELECT KEY, BACK, SAVE. Then that takes me back to INCOMING CALL. Am I missing something? 😕

Philip, the way I saved them as .3gp was to just renames the files extension by highlighting "mp3" and changing it to 3gp. Be sure to leave the dot (.) and ignore the statement if your computer says that the file may become unstable by changing the file extension.

Anyone know if it works for .mp4 too? I wasn't able to use any music files on my storage card, so if it would work with the smaller .mp4 files in the phone's internal memory, that'd be a big plus.

That's perhaps is a nice trick.
I did everything as was described in the very first reply. When I tried to call my cell phone I could not hear the MP3 ringtone which I selected. Same thing was with 3GP 😈

What am I doing wrong?
