using mp3's as ringtones

a lot of people have been complaining that they can't use their mp3's as ringtones. that they can play it, but when trying to choose it as a ringtone, the song is greyed out.

i can't tell you that this works for sure 100% b/c i actually don't have the phone for myself. but i do have a friend who works for samsung in the wireless division, and the t809 was one of the phones that they had worked on. this is what one of their engineers told me.

there is a work around for custom mp3's on the t809. as long as you download the mp3 from a wap site (for those that don't know, wap is wireless access protocol. it's like IP for the phone, or wireless industry/technology. just another protocol, so instead of regular website, they call the s...

I can confirm that this workaround doesn't work for this phone.

The phone actually detects DRM in the music. The only way to set a file as a ringtone is to upload music that has DRM in it. And the only music that has DRM in it is 1. files you buy from ringtone sites (tmobile, samsung, etc) and 2. files you buy from yahoo and itunes.

There's a program called Media Audio Cutter that does this, it's 15 dollars (and I'm not buying it). It supposedly uploads files with DRM so you can download them to your phone. As I said, I don't know how it works because I haven't used it. I've been using freeringers since about february, when I was on an E715. Then I got my Razr and didn't need it. If anyone else finds a workaround let me know.

You don't have to pay for a program to cut your mp3's to ringtone length. I found WavePad online and it works perfectly. Open your mp3 file in wavepad, cut the clip you want (30 seconds is ideal), set the rate... anything higher than 64 takes a lot of memory, lower than 30 or 40 sounds like crap. save the file you create to your computer. Rename the file extension from .mp3 to .3gp transfer to your phone and enjoy 🙂
