what are the chances of getting one unlocked and working perfectly with cingular, knowing that the internet stuff will need to be changed.

i think if it has t-mobile software (t-zones, t-this, t-that, etc.) like the moto v300 for example. it will be REALLY tough and i mean REALLY tough to use the web or mms since unless cingular drops a simular phone or has a software pack you can download simular to what t-mobiles is. cingy has sammy sliders but none have the features this has so they don't have the software for it. unless somone can bootleg it from somewhere.

🙄 That's true, but why would you want to be with Cingular, I mean honestly, they have the worst Customer service, constant network outages, above many other things.

Because there is a roaming agreement between T-Mobile and Cingular, the "Who's better" argument is basically null and void as far as coverage goes. Cingular can use T-Mobile towers, and T-Mobile can use Cingular towers. Now, the matter of customer service may indeed sway people (this is where, as you stated, Cingular is lacking), but Cingular definitely has superior coverage and a MUCH larger network. If there weren't monopoly laws in this country, Cingular could easily acquire T-Mobile. As stated before, though, coverage doesn't matter because of the roaming agreements. It's been my experience that basically any T-Mobile phone will work with Cingular service, and any Cingular phone will work with T-Mobile service. The trick is to get one th...

Omg..
it's the same stuff...
i mean cingular and t-mobile...
i mean..
two different company's using same technology..
you can't go wrong with either of them
it just all depends on how many of your friends or family are using t-mobile or cingular...
if they use more cingular then get cingular for mobile to mobile..
if they use more t-mobile then get t-mobile for mobile to mobile..

people use common sense!!

That's not exactly true. Sure they're using similar tech but Cingular and Tmobile appeal to different bases completely.
Personally, I don't have cingular because of 2 things...they're data packages suck. I called cingular myself 3 times over it. None of their plans have unlimited texts, and their biggest medianet plan has 5mb of data. I use alot more than that. With Tmo I get unlimited everything for 20 a month. And to those who say they're on the same towers, read again. That's not even true. Have you ever seen a tmo phone roam on cingular? No. You can unlock any phone to any service, it doesn't mean they have roaming agreements. So revamp your thinking. It depends on what service works better in your area, what features you want on your p...

I have never seen T-mobile roam onto Cingular, or any other network for that matter. Not unless you get a regional plan that has you on Tmobile in a certain area. Tmo national does'nt roam. Most networks have agreements where as long as it's a similar network, they'll roam - but that doesn't mean it happens alot. I have Tmo, about 5 of my friends have Tmo and none of them roam while in the U.S. Been to Jamaica and it roams with a company called Digicel which isn't even programmed into the phone. It can also roam with the monopoly phone company there called CWJ, depending completely on the type of phone you have (Quad/Tri band gets you Digi), Dual band gets you CWJ.

Not true. I'm on Tmo national plan but sometimes roam on ATT which, of course, is Cingular. This happens when there is no Tmo signal in certain areas.

Then those phones are completely different from any I have gotten, because when I don't get signal, I don't get any signal...meaning I get 0 bars and no service, even in ATT/Cingular areas.

Just to clear some misunderstandings about this subject. For 1 thing I work tech support for t-mobile. Now as far as the 2 biggest gsm carriers in the us using each others networks. YES YOU CAN, they have agreements that benifit both sides alot. As too what was said eairler about cingular could buy T-mobile if there werent monoploy laws. Gotta think bigger then your own little country buddy. GSM is the largest and most widely used tech in the world for cell phones. A company called Duetche Telecom owns T-mobile, are 1 in the same and they just about have a monoploy in Europe. As far as your first questions, if you can get this phone unlocked then you CAN use it on cingulars net, just need one of there SIM cards. Goes for any phone o...

Also one thing i forgot to add, if you use this phone on a differant network, u just need to contact your own carrier and have them send you there GPRS setting OTA (over the air). Just ask them to send you the GPRS and MMS setting and they can walk you through installing them and setting them to default that way you can serf the net or picture / video message.

One point to make to everyone is that Cingular use 850 and 1900mhz, and t-mobile only use 1900mhz, This make a big differnts on why Cingular gets better covage. So with a tmo phone your phone only get the 1900mzh even if you went to cingular covage area your not getting it true covage.

While you are correct in noting that T-Mobile uses 1900 mhz, you neglect to keep in mind that all of the phones that T-Mobile currently offers (the Sidekick II being the lone exception) offer a minimum of 850 and 1900 mhz.

You might also not be aware that T-Mobile has recently reached agreements with additional roaming partners, those which use the 850 mhz frequency in particular.

I am a T-Mobile employee based in Pittsburgh, PA. I get a lot of customers who travel through West Virginia. Until recently, there was no roaming in WV. But now, courtesy of our new partner, Cellular One, customers can now roam freely throughout the state.

Hi, I read all the FAQs and I couldn't find an answer for one of the questions: If this phone uses 850MHz, how can I get to use the Cingular network? I moved and now I'm living on an island 30 min away from Canada (zipcode: 98250) and I can't get any service, but Cingular does, how do I get to switch networks? When I try it, it says 'Does not register' Do I need to terminate my contract? I really like T-Mobile but if I dont have service I have to switch. Also, when I talked with a rep, she said that there's an agreement between T-mobile and cingular so I could be able to use Cingular network and be charged the same. However, I can't get it to select a different network, please help me out!!! I dont use my phone but I still have to pay my bil...

Its not that difficult, pay full price, call tmo to get unlock code, do a search on google for 'change wap t809' you'll be able to find a key combination to get into the wap profiles, enter cingy settings. done.
