Problems with "push" with Wireless Sync
First off, I upgraded to the 700w after using a Blackberry 7130e for several weeks. I loved the simplicity of the Blackberry, and I particularly loved the push email. I have used the Wireless Sync software to configure my IMAP/POP email account to my 700w (my email client does not utilize an exchange server). However, so far, unlike my Blackberry, it takes upwards of 45 minutes to have my email pushed to my account. Often times, I have to initiate this process by manually syncing the device. I contacted Verizon and they said that this is a known problem that they are working to fix. Does anyone have any further information or suggestions as to how I can fix this problem? I'd like to receive my email in as close to real-time as possibl...

I returned the phone today after this same issue. It is pathetic they release a phone with this type of flaw. I currently use a Treo 650. Sometimes less is more.
Windows OS is slow as hell and filled with bugs. What else is new.
The only thing better about the 700 is the EVDO. Activesync isn't even push and I couldn't get it to sync with my exchange server. This phone needs a major overhaul. Should have been tested for atleast 6 more months. Feels like a Beta to me.
I am very dissapointed to say the least. Palm OS is better than MS.
The good news is that RIM will be releasing Blackberry connectivity for the Treo 650 and 700. Perhaps I will revisit the 700 at that time. For now, I'm back to my old reliable 650.

Again i cant stress this enough. Wireless sync sucks. Its a verizon software so they could make $$. If you want to use an exchange server, use Exhcange ActiceSync, NOT WirelessSync. WirelessSync is NOT a PALM or WINDOWS software. The Treo700 connects beautiful using Exchange ActiveSync with push and everything.

If you call palm tech, most likely they will tell you to uninstall it, for any issue with the phone. Poor battery life
Goodlink will be a much better solution when/if it's gets certified for the 700.

well thats the software the treo came with. If you dont like EAS, dont buy the phone. Buy one that fits your needs not complain about one that doesnt. Our tech support line is only recieving not even 1% of phones sold, so apparently people like it.

Actually, if you are using the up-to-date Exchange Server, you do get tasks over the air. Not notes, though. And the wake up is not SMS, it is EMail over the data channel, so you don't pay for SMS messages. The effect is like push, and apparently some improvements pending for Exchange Server will eliminate the "out-of-band notification" via EMail. FYI, you never actually see the notifications.
I use Good on another device. It's OK, but not that great. Because it has its own files, you can't use VoiceCommand to dial out of its contact database as far as I know.

I agree that using Mobile Access with Exchange 2003 is the long-term way to go. However, that assumes your company has the Mobile Access service activated on your Exchange server, correct?
I have been using Wireless Sync for almost a year (first on my XV6600 now on 700W) and it works pretty well. I am, however, looking forward to using Mobile Access with Active Synch.

You can rent Exchange Server for $30 per month from Intermedia (.net). That gives you three mailboxes (the minimum) and support for the Treo via Outlook Web Access for free. I have been using them for a while and it is very painless and easy if you are willing to pay. Then everything is in sync. You can access your POP3 account through Outlook and it ends up in your Exchange mailbox, thereby automatically backed up.

I'm also using Intermedia's hosted Exchange and so far it's been great. Having all my business email synced up through my phone has made working on the move a lot easier!

Read your post re Exchange and wanted to ask you a question re the Treo and Outlook email. I will be getting a Treo 700W for email purposes, and only want to get it, if I can use Outlook on it in the same fashion I use it on my office computer--ie, I want to be able to see my personal folders on the Treo, file new emails in them, maybe go back and double check something I filed etc. Just like I'd be able to do on a rented computer in a hotel business center, if I connected to mail.companyname.com/exchange. IS this possible on the Treo, or the 6700?
