DONT DROP IT, as well as some other really good advice
ok thats my question. now for some good info for the rest of you!
There is post with 2 very important reg hacks. One for speed and another for wifi and phone at the same time. DO THOSE NOW! and soft reset after each.
everyone says they have a custome smtp port that their mail server uses and there is no place to input that setting... just add :portnumber after the server address. for example
mail.mailserver.com:2525
DONE! stop complaining.. i found it and so can everyone else.
ANOTHER mail hint.. STORE ATTACHEMENTS ON THE STORAGE CARD!!
ESSENTIAL SOFTWARE!
Microsoft Voice Command: i have over 2000 contacts. i am NOT going to scroll through it alphabetically every time i want to call my wife. get version 1.5 because the older versions donut work with WM5. When you install this, it replaces the START button next to the joystick. FIX THE BUTTON ASSIGNMENTS so that the start button does the start and the record button should do the voice command.
Resco Explorer: replace the stupid file explorer that comes with the phone. Resco comes with a Reg editor so you can do the first 2 hacks mentioned above. plus it handles ZIP files VERY well.
Pocket Informant: replaces the default PIM manager. Better control of your contacts and calendar. DONT FREAK OUT THAT YOU CANT ASSING A RING TONE TO A CONTACT.. its there, just look for it. *hint* you have to add a field. its easy
Pocket TV: free, just register on line. plays almost all video formats that WMP doesn't.
SPB Pocket Plus: a MUST HAVE today screen plug in. give you an idiot proof batt meter right across the top of the screen, the close button actually CLOSES applications and gives you a neat menu if you click and HOLD on the close button. (don't use this program for zip files. it will ask you) some other neat add ons like FULL SCREEN IE and stuff...
SPB Weather: yea duh.. you can add it as a tab on spb pocket plus
SPB GPRS: this lets you know how much data you have transfered to and from your phone as well as your connection speeds and transfer rates (for large files)
all of the above programs are installed on the device, not the storage card. EVERYTHING ELSE I INSTALL (GAMES, MAP PROGRAMS, MUSIC, MOVIES, DOCUMENTS, WHATEVER) goes on the storage card.
turn off AUTO BEAM to save power,
bluetooth works awesome, i have the new plantronics voyager headset, yes you can listen to mp3's while your jogging (haha like i jog) and you can talk to people on it too... AMAZING...
bluetooth activesync. does exactly what it says. You have to manually inniate it from the phone and dont forget to disconnect it or you will drain your batt after a day at the office.
rings and notifications. take any WMA or WAV file and put it in Device\windows\rings and assign the ring tone to whoever.
if you want your phone to shout "Yahhhh i got mail yahhhhh" put that wave file in the windows folder. and then you can assign it to a new email notification.
speaker phone sucks on this unit, and so is the volume on the built in ear phone. so use a headset. 200% better
i tried WISBAR, its just eye candy. i much rather have the performance speed.
CAMERA!!! i almost forgot, make sure you set the camera options!! capture mode for PHOTO, bump up the size to 1.3 and you can still use digital zoom. if you use the scaled, you loose the zoom feature. tools, options, LOOKY LOOKY, more camera options.
General Tab: save to STORAGE CARD!!
Image Tab: prefix type: date and time... i cant tell you how freaking annoying it is to copy images from my storage card to my pc and there are the images i copied LAST TIME... OH NO... OVER WRITE IMAGE 1? IMAGE 2? just change the filename prefix to time and date and never worry about that again. JPEG Quality, superfine baby!
Video Tab: again, prefix type: date and time.
(psssss i usually disable the shutter sound for those candid camera shots) wink, you know what i'm talking about.
I think that's enough. More hints and tips.. JUST REPLY TO THIS!!!
