Verizon Wireless XV-6700 most necessary registry edits

madcow706

Just thought I would post this, sorry if this is already in the forums, but when I looked around yesterday I didn't find this stuff, so I searched the net and found some of this info. I just got the XV-6700 and I like the phone a lot. After these registry edits the phone is much better then the Treo 650.

First for these registry edits you will need to download a Registry Editor to help you do it, a good one to use is PHM Registry Editor.

1. Speed Up Your Windows Mobile Pocket PC:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMGDIGLYPHCACHE

Change the value of 'limit' from 8192 to 32768

Close registry editor and soft reset.

2. How to enable Wifi and Phone service at the same time:

3. How to Disable SMS delivery receipt text message on Verizon 6700 (the extra text message that you receive to let you know you've sent a successful text message):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREOEMSMS

Change "Delivery Ack" from 1 to

Close registry editor and soft reset.

I had the one for the bubble...but this one was almost a deal breaker as I approach 14 days! Thank you very much! Works perfect!

I have the same problem as the guy before. I am a little confused when you say the "cab" file. I've installed on My computer. I actually dragged all the files and put them in folder on to my 6700. If I click on the Setup it says "is not a valid pocket pc application". I have about 11 icons that that are cab files. I saved them on the memory card and tried to run them and is says it was installed unsuccessful. If im saving them in wrong spot where do i save them on the phone. Do i make a folder or sub folder? Sorry to ask probably basic questions but i got to remove these "delivery" text messages....their killing me!!!

Odd. Maybe try downloading the .cab file directly with IE on your 6700. It doesn't matter where the file is located on your device, although somewhere on the storage card or under My Documents is recommended just for sake of neatness and sanity...

You might be downloading a corrupted version of the application. Perhaps you should try another download site? I got my copy from freewareppc.com and it worked fine.

I need to decide before 2/10/06 whether I am going to keep this XV6700. There are two things in particular that I do not like about the XV6700.

1. The ease of making a phone call. Is there a Voice Recognition software that will work with a Bluetooth Headset? What software and headset combinations work best? I am very disappointed the Voice Dialing was not built in this XV6700.

2. The Speakerphone is what it is. It could be better.

3. Customer Service and Tech Support always tell you to stay away from "Reg Edits". My question is as follows:

What site gives you the PHM Reg Edit for download? What is the most current version? Every site I find it takes me to a link that does not work.

This is my first PDA phone so I wan...

The MS Voice Commmand software works with a bluetooth headset very well. Unfortunately, the multifuction button on the bluetooth headset does not activate voice command, so you have to push a button on the phone, speak the command into the phone and once connectted, the bluetooth headset works. Yeah, I know, real cheesey and really stupid that they would overlook this.

Yep, speakerphone is about as next to useless as it gets.

For whatever reason, I could not get the freeware PHM editor to install. I downloaded a trial version of another editor from Handango, used it to make the edits mentioned here. No problems.

Not sure what you're talking about as far as wifi and the XV-6700. It comes enabled with wifi and it has worked very ...

I agree about MS Voice Command. If we need to push a button on the phone, this defeats the "hands-free" option of making a phone call.

Also, what I meant about WI-FI and phone is that you can use one or the other with the XV6700. Either use WI-FI or use the phone. You cannot use both together as you can on Sprint's PPC6700.

Not trying to be mean, but if you can't even install a registry editor, or adequately explain "an error" to others, you probably shouldn't be hacking your registry. It's an inherently dangerous thing to do. For those who know how, and understand the risks, no big deal. But it's not an exercise for those who need handholding through every step. There's a reason it's called "hacking."

You're at least partly right. Sorry, I should've tried to be more helpful.

At the same time, you'll get more help if you ask properly. I don't mean begging on your knees, but just presenting as much info as you can about where you are stuck and what you have tried. For instance "I tried to install the program and got an error" is about useless. No one can give you specific help with that. (Well, maybe Ms. Cleo!) You need to be specific about what steps you took to install and what error message(s) you got -- word for word if possible.

Just as a basic rule, the more care you put into asking for help properly, the more likely you'll get it, and the more likely the help will be useful to you. And human nature dictates that the well...

Got another one for you! Anyone else hit the annoying "must reconnect to the data network every friggin time you do anything, even if it's five seconds after the last time" problem? I found a registry hack for the XV6700 to fix this. ...At least early results are promising. Since setting this key and resetting the phone, I've seen no more annoying "connecting..." balloons. It appears I'm nailed up now! 😎

Go to: HKLM/Comm/ConnMgr/Providers/7c4b7a38-5ff7-4bc 1-80f65da7870bb1aa/Connections/Data Network Connect/AlwaysOn

Apparently AlwaysOn is 0 by default. Change it to 1 and soft reset the phone. And please let me know if this hack works for you too.

cwilkins --

I'm interested in that edit. My question is: How do you ever turn the data connection back off? I like to be able to make and receive phone calls every now and then. 🙂

Do phone calls ring through the data session, disconnecting it till you next initiate one?
...

Feb 28, 2006, 11:16 AM
I will add that the biggest reason this interests me is Instant Messenger, which is apparently unable to hold the data session open. If I don't switch over ti PIE every few minutes and click a link, the data session will terminate, as will my AIM session.

From playing with the new AlwaysOn=1 setting for a few hours, I've found two things will clobber your data session:

1. Inbound or outbound phone calls will interrupt an EVDO session. (Old news, but included here for sake of completeness.)

2. Docking the phone to your PC. (Tested USB sync. Not sure about Bluetooth sync.)

Since I set AlwaysOn=1, only docking the phone has caused the "Connecting..." balloon to pop up after I undock and attempt to reach the Internet. Otherwise, no more "Connecting..." balloon!

Now, what this will do for your IM sessions I don't know. Maybe you can forge ahead into the unknown and then report back? 🙂

Further experimenting:

The data session seems to merely "pause" during a telephone call. For example, if I am on the phone, I won't get any IMs. However, as soon as I hang up the phone, the IMs come through. No "reconnecting" or anything.

It stayed on all night. That was the one last feature I envied blackberries for: their always on connection.

I wonder how Verizon is going to like this. I figure, I am paying for unlimited data. So they can't complain.

The way I see it, I'm just making my 6700 behave like the 6600 did. (The XV6600 didn't constantly reconnect.) And no joy from talking to customer support, so I found my own solution.

Honestly, I'm a little shocked it was so easy!

My suspicion is that this setting was just an oversight on Verizon's part and that had they been paying attention, they would've set AlwaysOn=1. (Then again, this is the same company that adopted PPPoE for DSL connectivity...) There's a similar thread going on about the Treo 700w and there's apparently a pending ROM upgrade to fix it. Are we in store for the same?

Anyway, I don't think EVDO uses significant network resources unless you're actively moving data. If I'm wrong, maybe one of our EVDO exper...

Have spent a good 8 hours off-cradle today, and even though I've gotten battery warnings, it's still kicking along. I figure as long as I plug it in whenever I'm at my desk or in my car, I should have no trouble with battery life.

To keep the keyboard backlight on longer than the default (10sec I think)...

Change the (decimal!) DWORD value in this key:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout to something like 30.

(or if you want it on for 30 seconds, that's hex value 1E, or 20 secs would be hex 14)

Not sure what the longest valid setting is.

If you *really* want a lot of good info about this phone, go check out ppcgeeks.com and the "HTC Apache" forum.
