UTStarcom PPC-6700 / XV-6700 / HTC Apache

Can you load any type of program on this phone i.e. my company's instant messenger? And VPN software? I would need to VPN to start the instant messenger so my boss thinks I am sitting infront of my laptop. I finish two days work in 3 hours and I don't want to sit infront of this laptop if I can be out enjoying life. I know I can use the phone as a modem for the laptop so I went and bought one off of ebay an hour ago. I have to wait to get the phone to play with it. That is why I am asking. If I can leave my laptop in the car while I am out at a restaurant or whatnot.. and still look like I am active on the instant messenger. I appreciate it.
