High Speed Access on Your Laptop or PC using Evo 300kb-700Kb

If you already have unlimited data plan on your 6700 phone you can access high speed internet access using you phone as a modem.. do not do this if you have 10MB per Month or pay as you go because you will axceed your MB real quick and you get charged a lot...

Make sure you have this cd, came with phone.

Verizon "Getting Started CD for Verizon
XV6700" CD
1)Insert verizon CD in drive,
2) go to your phone, open file explorer on your phone should be on your programs, go to My Devide then click Windows, then look for "Wmodem" file. do not confuss WModemlog with WMmodem file. You need to look for WModem. if you can't see it then click Menu bottom on lower right corner and check "Show All Files", once you do it you should see two WMo...

Wow.. that's awesome. I can't believe there's been no replies on this. does this actually work? has anyone else tried it? I'm going to try this tonight!
I had heard that it's not possible with Verizon to use your phone as a modem... that might prove everyone wrong 🙂

Yes, it indeed does work...

(wish I knew the CD was required, would of moved the files to my thumb drive. Could have come in handy today. Due to severe rainstorm the phone/internet lines where I work were down)

Well, if they're not up today...I'll be the king at the office browsing while everyone else is stuck.

*lol*

Much obliged to the original poster. Now I just need to get the bluetooth all worked out.

(Just got Voice Command installed, got version 1.1 for $29 at Circuit City and then it rang up for $6. Had to fuss for an hour to get the upgrade installed.

The solution. Install 1.1 then install 1.5 DO NOT delete 1.1 from the device as instructed. This didn't work in any of the three attempts. Wait until you can see un...

God bless this forum and curca2000 🙂

I have been using my cell phone as modem and its really robust and reliable solution. I use it very heavily(for hours almost every day) and I don't loose connections. Home, airports, hotels everywhere. I do it using a usb cable.

Has anyone tried this with bluetooth?

I am able to connect using usb just fine. However i'd like to connect using my BT. I am able to detect my device but the only option I get for it is audio gateway. BT DUN in enabled on device & comp. I tried putting the device wmodem in bt option & clicked startn, then detected it again. same results (;_;). What did u do to set it up? Did you have to install an additional modem? Thanx.

I was told by WDTS that the 6700 would not work as a modem. I lost a phone sale because of it! Is this one of those things VZW doesn't want you to do?

I'm with Verizon and I'm using my 6700 as a modem right now. As I do this, I'm listening to streaming radio and I do this daily at work. I know that VZW doesn't want you to do it but what they don't know, won't hurt them....It shows up to them as me only using my EVDO like most people do. I have the unlimited usage and I take advantage of it.

Thanks for the great tip Curca2000!

Thought I'd share my experiences:

1 - Your tutorial was mostly correct, and following the on-screen prompts filled in the gaps. A fairly painless procedure, all in all.

2 - I have a Verizon EV-DO modem (Kyocera KPC650). Did a speed test and the KPC650 can do 500-700Kbs vs. 150-250Kbs on my XV6700.

3 - You can't make or receive calls when the modem is on. Minor to me, but your mileage may vary...

4 - Syncing does not work with modem on. This is serious because this means you can't sync your PC's Outlook using the phone as a modem! This is not minor (to me).

Still, this is a cool tool and if you can't spring for a dedicated PC modem it's pretty good.

P.S. I LOVE my XV6700...

FYI..I can receive calls while modem is on. However, the modem has stopped after a while a few times. Good that at least we know that somebody is calling us.

I read on this forum that second quarter upgrade has inbuilt voice recognition. Perhaps its worth the wait if we don't want to spend extra money.
