Is the battery life for real?

They advertised 4 hours of talk time, 8 days standby. But today was my first full day of use (I just got it yesterday), and the battery died at 8pm.

If the phone can't last at least one whole day w/o having to re-charge, I may just have to return this.

My friend said his Treo lasts a good 3 days before having to re-charge... and my friend with a blackberry said he has no problem going a whole weekend w/o having to re-charge.

There HAS to be something I'm doing to cause the battery to die so quickly. For one, I reduced my e-mail sync down to once an hour (previously set to the defualt every 15 minutes).

Does anyone else know what may be causing my battery life to be soo poor?

The battery life isn't great but better than what you're experiencing. Do you have the wifi on or off? If on, that will drain battery.

Go to Start ... Settings ... System ... Memory and then Running Programs. See what you have running that may cause the battery to drain. Try shutting everything down for a day except what you absolutely need. At the top of the screen, use your stylus to click on Ev to see if you have wifi turned on or not.

Turn off keyboard backlighting.

Reduce the display backlighting level to about half.

Reduce the backlighting timeout to 1 minute.

I've never come home with less than 70% battery left with this configuration.

I noticed a HUGE improvement after I forgot to charge my phone and the battery went totally dead. While it's not recommended you run a Lithium Ion battery dead before charging, doing it that one time really seemed to help. It may have just set the meter to show the charge more accurately but it's certainly better than it was a week ago.
