6700 vs. Sidekick

Cyndy

I am a Sidekick user. I have a love-hate relationship with my Sidekick.

Pros:
* Keyboard: Nothing else compares. I type a lot on it so the keyboard is key.
* Screen: It is a big and easy to read.
* Synch: It synchs wirelessly and all data is backed up on Danger's servers.

Cons:
* T-Mobile: The worst carrier around.
* Screen: It is not hot (i.e. no stylus capabilities)
* Software: Proprietary OS so limited software.

The cons are enough that I want to switch and I need to give hte phone back to my former employer.

Has anyone used both and is it possible to switch from a Sidekick to anything else? The keyboard is incredible.

Thanks!

I'm a Sidekick II user myself, and have many of the same feelings.

My take: the elegance of the Sidekick OS goes a long way toward overriding its shortcomings. It's just so, usable.

Example. I used to have a Treo 600 but I sold it because it was so much harder to multitask and to type on the keyboard.

With the scroll wheel and the multitasking on the Sidekick, you can be sending IMs, Googling something, and composing an e-mail all at the same time.

(And as somebody said, you need all that multitasking because GPRS is so much slower.)

Also the incredible simplicity of up to three e-mail accounts (one push e-mail, two (or is it three) automatically polling for mail every 15 minutes.)

There's also the always-on data. If your ...

The sidekick II and the xv 6700 are two different deviced aimed at 2 different users. The Sidekick is designed to be a simple txt and instant messaging phone, and does an excellent job at that. It is very easy to use, and the simplicity makes it less likely to give you headaches. However, it is limited in what it can do - it is nowhere near as functional or powerful as a true Pocket PC device, and would not be as suitable for a corporate or professional user looking to use it as a business tool. It also unfortunately is exclusive to the worst carrier in the cell phone market (and I say that having been with them for over a year).

That said, if you want an alternative to the sidekick, you do have a couple of options with Verizon, depen...

What do you think of the Qtek 9100 and the various European Wizard variants?

I'm thinking about picking up one of those so I can try it on my grandfathered $20 unlimited data plan on Cingular, without signing a new contract just yet.

I know the processor isn't as fast, but perhaps that means it's kinder to the battery.
