Is this correct? Can verizon customers use this phone or any Amp'd for for that matter?

Probably not. Amp'd is an MVNO. They do use Verizon's network, but everything they offer to consumers is 100% separate from Verizon.

It's perfectly possible - and in fact quite likely - that Amp'd will lock their phones like Sprint does. It's just like Sprint and Virgin - you can't use a Virgin phone on Sprint or vice-versa. Amp'd and Verizon is the same situation.

It's also likely that if you were able to unlock one of these phone you still wouldn't be able to use it on Verizon's network. Amp'd is going to use a special BREW based UI/Menu system that will directly integrate with online sync servers. Verizon does not have anything even close to that. The best comparison would be the way T-Mobile's sidekick is setup. If you unlocked a sidekick and stuck a non T-mo SIM in, you would only be able to use the Voice and SMS. In this case, I don't think you would be able to do anything because.

I understand why you would say this but - if you call Verizon and tell them you want to an old phone on your account they will let you. Tell them it is a Verizon KX414. Give them the ESN and put it in your account. I did that with a Virgin Mobile phone and put it in my Alltel account. Worked like a charm! I'm positive you would be able to do it with Amp'd->Verizon.
