As for the internet? The beauty of this that you have a lot of connection options: WiFi if you're in a hotspot, EDGE if you're in your coverage area, or even bluetooth if you're within a few meters of a properly set-up computer with internet access. The built in version of IE will let you browse MOST pages, but depending on what sites you visit you might want to install a 3rd party browser for "full" access.
The real advantage is that you're bundling all these options together into one device. The touch screen and handwriting recognition is pretty handy for quick note-taking, but don't forget to have a headset (bluetooth or otherwise) if you want to be able to take notes while you're on a call. Games are a great way to pass the time and they give you incentive to bring it with you in places you might not bother to bring a laptop. There's tons of other software you can install on these to make it fun and useful and the built in MS Office apps make it an excellent organizer.
Bottom line, for serious word processing, you'll want an actual computer. Remember it's very literally a pocket PC/camera/phone. You should know that you wouldn't use a camera phone to replace a real digital camera, but having a way to take snapshots with your phone that you carry all the time is quite handy. It's the same concept with the PocketPC aspect, it's not a replacement for a real PC, but it makes it imminently portable which has unique advantages.
