Media Net vs. Data Plan with Cingular

I have a treo 650 now with an unlimited media net (internet) package and I am upgrading to an 8125. A Cingular rep told me that I have to upgrade my internet package to a data plan, because media net will not work on the phone. Is this true? I only want to check my email and surf the net I do not need the high speed data capability. I thought the 650 and the 8125 had the same EDGE data connect capability?

I have the 5MB media net plan. I do exactly what you want with the 8125. I check my e-mail and internet via media net.

Some agents will allow you to go ahead and connect a MEdiaNet plan instead of a PDAConnect plan. The reality is that they wind up using the same network and same services. The issue was that the MEdiaNet plans are designed for devices that have impossibly low throughput in the first place. This means devices with smaller displays and lower data rates.

With the 8125, you have a full-sized PDA display AND high-speed EDGE/EGPRS access. Since people who have this kind of device are likely to USE it for data more frequently, they want to make sure they soak you thoroughly for it.
