Phone answers/disconnects while retrieving from case

When I place my 8100 in it's case on my belt I lock it so that only the on button can turn it back on or unlock it. This works quite well, except ... When I receive an incoming call, and fumble to get it out of the case, invariably it answers and often ends the call as I inadvertently hit buttons (I assume)

I can't seem to find a setting forcing it to only answer a call when the talk button is pushed (or some other option like this).

Anyone have this happen and is there a solution ?

thanks

The design of the belt holder that comes with the Wizard-based devices is good for staying on your belt and holding your device secure, however it does lead to some people having issues with inadvertently hanging up on people while trying to pull the device out.

I have adopted an approach where I use the openings in the bottom of the holster to push the device up (instead of sticking my fingers into the holster to try to wedge the device up and out) and then grab it by the exposed ends to pull it the rest of the way out. It's hard to describe.

I use my pointer finger and my pinky to push the corners of the device exposed through the bottom holes on the left and right side of the holster (forefinger is pressing against the top corner, p...

Thanks for the reply, but ....

I am using bluetooth most of the time, but for the times I need caller ID or when I am not blue tooth enabled (in company where I don't want to be rude, in a meeting at work, etc), or any time I need to see who is claling before dismissing or ignoring the call, this is a big problem.

I too have reverted to the method you mention for carefully pulling the phone out but that's not the main point.

The larger problem is that the phone is unlocking making it vulnerable to hanging up if you lean to one side and put pressure on the side with the end-call button (while using bluetooth), or it can lead to making an unintended call if after the 1st call you lean to one side and hit the call button a couple times...

"The phone should have an option to lock buttons when it unlocks the phone to answer incoming calls, then re-lock the phone when the call is complete."

That's what mine does actually? Is there a setting off maybe? Are you using the "Device Lock" on the touch screen? If you don't see it, it may not be enabled. It's under settings/home and one of the tabs shows your Today screen items. Make sure device lock is checked.

So really what I do, is when I'm finished with whatever, I hit "device lock" with the point of my thumb, then hit the power button at the top of the phone. If I get a call, I hit the green, and when I'm done with the call it automatically says "unlock" at the bottom letting me know it's already locked again.

Ok, now I understand why we were not understanding each other.

I was hoping to be able to use the on/off button alone to lock the phone and put it into power conserving mode in such a way that it would leave the buttons locked during an incoming call. So you're recommending I should hit "lock" first, and then hit the on/off button before holstering the phone every time. Then anytime an incoming call is received, it awakens to get the call but doesn't unlock the buttons, and then it will resume being locked after teh call and will resume power saving mode once the set time has passed.

Extra strokes but it works ... I like it.

Thanks very much.

Exactly 🙂 Hit lock on the screen, hit the power button on top and holster. Glad it helps 😁 It is a couple extras but once you do it a lil while you'll not even notice! 😉

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I am having the same problem with disconnects b/c of inadvertantly pushing buttons while receiving a call.

I remembered this thread was here and came back to it as a refresher.

I just tried this solution, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. If I hit the "Device Unlocked" portion of the "Today" screen to lock the device, both of the phone keys are STILL activated when receiving an incoming call.

It makes no difference if I had powered the phone down or not, the phone keys still are fully functional.

Am I missing something?
