Need more than a second opinion...

Hi, I've been looking into getting a new phone for a while now. I am considering venturing into the PPC or PDA/smartphone market. How well would I adapt to this devise and/or maybe others like it. I know I would make good use of the Windows 5.0 OS but highly doubt I'd need to add 3rd party apps just yet... maybe some games if i find any others. Should I consider this phone as my first? My cousin is on his second (replacement) treo and he is still unhappy with it...

I have done some research on the 8125 since the rep at the cingular store I go to mentioned it to me. Though he wasn't any more help then that, since he said he never tried the phone out himself, but he was "excited" for it to come out. whatever that means...

As far as I ca...

Could use a bit more information on what you need in the way of features or the type of problems/help you envision. My first impression is if you don't need add-on apps perhaps a Smartphone like the SMT-5600 would do. It has very similar features and although it takes add-ons, it is quite complete out of the box. I found mine very nice and mainly needed a bigger screen, such as on the 8125. The 8125 (with 3 days experience) is much more computer-like. It's really for someone who either needs to use MS Office in a handheld form factor, or wants to do add-on apps and other computing beyond the capability of a Smartphone. I used both devices to keep up with an active office schedule and email. Although both handle documents I don't really...

I guess I should've mentioned that I am a partner in a small business... The phone I have doesn't really help me when I need to remember dates and contacts, so that is why I know that I would get better use of the MS Outlook sync... and I would use the word and notepad docs to take requests and notes in a conversation with my clients... If that's at all possible when on the phone... I'll have to look into that other phone that you mentioned... thanx again.

This should be entirely possible with this phone if you're using a headset. Also, the keyboard on this is a real advantage over a smartphone for taking notes and responding to emails.

The first one I got was a lemon, but the replacement has been great. No lockups, no problems at all, great battery life - I love it!

Given the additional requirements I'd lean towards the 8125 for the reasons mentioned by Spectre. An add-on keyboard would allow you to type as quickly as using a notepad. The keyboard would fold up to a size similar to the phone itself.

thanx guys... i appreciate it... how's your daily usage of this device working for you, do you find it to be useful thus far? what do you mainly use? what types of apps are you currently using?

I've read some other posts in hofo. which i am fairly new to, but all in all they seem to make me want to get the 8125 asap... my only other concern is it being my first PPC... we'll see thanx again guys.

I'm in the middle of reading "How to do everything with your Pocket PC". Its a little out of date since it was written when Windows Moble 3 was released, but it has been helpful in finding those obvious and less obvious features. I'm very pleased with my move up to this device. I loaded the pocket PC version of MS Money '05 last night. I allows me to keep track of accounts while away from home. Not a major deal, but nice. I'm feeling more confident every day. The reception has been great and people seem to be able to hear me just fine on the other end. I'll need to move up to a better bluetooth earpiece but that has nothing to do with the phone.

If you want a WM5 phone with lots of features & a 2.2" crisp screen, but not as big as a Pocket PC, consider the Cingular 2125, it's the small brother to the 8125. Excellent phone & reception etc. 😎
