GPS???

😢 So I plan to buy the Tmobile MDA on Tuesday (assuming they are in stock). I was blown away by my friends PPC-6700 (CDMA). He had a GPS and when I talked to Tmobile (who are idiots) they were 'fairly certain' the MDA did too. But phonescoop doesn't list it (side by side comparison to PPC-6700).

Can someone confirm, is there really no GPS? That would suck. I guess I'll still get it, but I was hoping for: GPS + EDGE + google map, for travel, local places to eat, hiking, biking, etc.

Thanks in advance.

gps is not on this phone. it is available on the 6700, the HP ipaq 6515 and the soon to be released HP iPAQ 6915 (same as 6515 minus SDIO slot but With WM5 and WiFi)

There are so many new devices coming out right now I'd advise anyone to wait until spring or even summer if you can to give some potential bugs time to be ironed out.

Thanks, that sucks about GPS. It really would have made the decive 'more complete.' As for waiting, yeah that's true. But I know that no matter when I buy/what I get, something cheaper/better/faster will come out a few weeks later 🙂 At this point I just accept that.

Still one of the 'coolest' things about my friends PPC-6700 was the GPS, so it's something to think about. As I look at the other 'smart phones' very few have GPS for some reason???

The retail price for the PPC6700 and MDA are both $400, so I have to assume it could have been included. Both are made by HTC??? Oh well, thanks again. I still think I'll get one sometime next week thou...

Don't give up just yet...there is hope for you. Check out this site: http://www.alk.com/copilot/smartphone.asp They sell Bluetooth GPS Receivers w/1 gig MiniSDs configured with maps. Who know...it may even be better for the battery life too.
Good Luck!!

I've used the Dell branded GPS receiver (made by Navteq (sp?)) with some luck. The receiver is a wireless bluetooth device which pairs up with your PDA or phone. Works pretty well, though the less than stellar processing power of this phone may make it slower than the Axim x51v I usu. run it with.

How does it work? It's for driving directions right? It tells you to turn left and where points of interests are doesn't it? That sounds amazing if it is. Did you say that you have used this software with the MDA or with a different phone?

I have used it with a slightly more powerful WM5 device - a Dell Axim x51v.

It works very well, and it is rather amazing. It automatically reroutes you if you miss a turn, has voice prompts, etc.

I'm not sure if this phone will have quite enough processor power to run it well. Hopefully I'll get the chance to try it out soon.

That sounds amazing. I didn't know phones could have GPS on them. What is the product name/model number that I would need to buy to work with my phone? Do you have a URL link? Thanks
