ESN change to New Unlock V3C

Ok, I was able to do the ESN change on one Razor V3c Unlocked, unbranded phone and it works great, in fact I have better signal bars than my prior V3c from Verizon. Now, I went to a Verizon Store and a tech that me that in order for me to get my Get It Now and Vcast working again, I would need to change the software to the current .04 on the unlock Razor.

How true is this? Is there another way around this becuase I'm afraid I'll end up getting back that Verizon UI and those red bars again.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Can you still send text messages? Is there a difference in battery life?

Also, where did you buy the unbranded V3C at? and where did you do the ESN change? Was it online?

I got it on ebay. I did the ESN over the phone and it was programmed manually, then the *228, got the EVDO running and phone works fine. I could get the Mobile Web. I can send and receive text messages but cannot receive or send MultiMedia messages ( picutes and video)

Silly question, but how do you do an ESN change through the phone. I have only done it online through Verizon's website. Also, have you noticed any battery life difference? That is one thing I really hate with Verizon's razr.

I had to call customer service and they walked me thru it. The battery life is execellent with the Motorola UI. Almost days with normal usage unlike less than 24 hours with the Verizon UI. I mainly did it so I can get full bluetooth access ( OBEX and OP).
Now all I need is to get back GIN, VCAST, and MMS messaging working again and I'll be go to go.

I just went through every cdma razr on ebay and there are none that are unbranded. đŸ˜ĸ There is a couple of people that have the alltel version who claim they had it activated for verizon, but I am hesitant to buy it...

You can get both GIN and Vcast with seem edits...

Check out the Wiki guide of flashing to Alltel, at the bottom you'll see what to do to fix it. You don't need to flash the firmware since you already have the "motorola UI."

But if you do flash to .04 with Verizon, you'll get that same old crappy UI.

Thank you all who helped. This morning I went to the Verizon store to take the plunge and change to version .04......
It can't be done, it kept saying cannot reconize. So I'll attempt to do with the wiki.howardforum site. Once again thanks and I'll keep you posted!!! 🙂

Hey santistevan13, got a question for you. I got my new v3c in the mail today. It has moto's original UI (no more red bars!) but it appears to be an alltel phone. The guy that sold it to me said that it was unbranded and straight from motorola. This phone has no logos on it, but when I power it on, Alltel shows up, and all of its menus are there. Also, instead of reading verizon on the homescreen, it says alltel exteneded, and that i am roaming. I called verizon and they said that i didn't need to worry that I wasn't roaming it was just saying that because this was a phone for alltel. Could you tell me if you had this problem, or does your phone actually read Verizon on the home screen. Thanks.

P.S. I love the original UI!!!

Hi depechemode82, my Razor V3c did not have the Alltel logo. It was a motorola UI and says Motorola on the outer screen. My phone only show the date and time and works excellent. I still plan on trying to install vcast and GIN. But overall, the phone is great. 🙂

Hey santistevan13, the phone that I got also has the moto UI and I absolutely love it. It makes such a huge difference, but it is an alltel phone so a couple of things are screwed up with it. Got a couple of questions for you. With your phone, 1. can you access mobile web? 2. when you send a text message, do you get one sent back to you that says your message went through? 3. Do you know where I might be able to buy a phone like yours with no logos? and if not, 4. Would you be interested in selling yours? I would pay a pretty penny to get my hands on one of those...let me know!
