My 2 cents

As excited as I was to get this phone - Im still fairly happy with it. Many complain about the UI (which I agree - it definitely sucks) but I can live with that... what I really cant stand is the home screen with the unnecessary unchangeable red/gray bars that take up half of the f*king screen...

The RAZR is so popular because of its "looks" ... when you open this piece of eye candy and your keypad has a blue backlight with stupid a$$ red bars - its a dissappointment.

Although it seems obsolete - this is my biggest complaint. Here we have this big beautiful screen and it ends up being cluttered by all the Verizon sh*t. my v710s screen was smaller but looks nicer with just a wallpaper than this will ever look.

Verizon really knows...

Yeah.... and it's bugging me a bit that so many posters are saying that Motorola shouldn't have changed the interface - it's a whole Verizon thing and it's going to happen with any Verizon phone you pick up nowadays. It's horrible.... who thinks that RED is a universal color?

I can understand that they want to make people know its a verizon phone, but come on ... its just too much. red bar at the top or bottom - fine, but those 4 bars that take up more than a third of the screen??

I just dont understand how they can take a phone with such a nice, large clear display and clutter it with that garbage. Hopefully one day they will fix this ...

I hate to say this, because Im a verizon fan/user for 3 years now, ever since I left cingular for their sh!tty service - but this is the stuff that is making me reconsider cingular. I keep asking myself "How bad can it be?".

is there any work around or hack to fix the main home screen?

thanks!

not sure if its there with the RAZR but on the 8100 phone the on the UI in the menu system you can turn ERI Banner off, which takes off one of the bars..

I agree i dont care for the bars on the UI they have but i have adapted to it with my 8100 and enjoy it's ease of use, i hated the motorola interface with a passion. I came from an LG6000, and the new interface was very easy to use considering it was close in comparison.

Can anyone confirm for me please - if there is a way to get rid of the ERI banner - to take away one of those bars??

unfortunately, I ordered mine wednesday morning of last week, overnighted, and still havent recieved mine ... figures ☚ī¸

Anyway, If someone can confirm whether or not this is possible with the new system that would be great, thanks!!!

You can't remove any of the red, but if you turn ERI banner off, it does't show "VERIZON WIRELESS" on the screen with it's shaded background bar, but red on top and bottom are still there!

cooool. thanks for the info.

so, if I recall correctly, there are 4 bars total, 2 red, 2 white - like this:

------- (red) Bar 1
------- (white) Bar 2

screen

------- (another white) Bar 3
------- (another red) Bar 4

So you are saying you can get rid of one of the white bars? (bar 2 or 3 in diagram) or both of them?

THANKS SO MUCH 🙂

In the menu, under banner, it should say ERI banner, at least on the 8100-which has basically the same UI. Of course, even though they basically have the same UI, I have noticed a lot more options on my 8100 than the 950 and also the RAZR (I used it briefly and noticed there is no option to change font, whereas you can on the 8100) so it may not be there, but if it is that is where it would be.

Unfortunately I dont think that is an option on the RAZR. would be nice if we can get rid of some of that clutter. I removed my shorcuts in "hide" mode - this way they are still there, I just press the direction but they arent visible and blocking my wallpaper.

let me know if you find it.

oh well, thanks!

Yeah, red is a great stark logo color - not arguing that. But on every screenshot of your cell phone, it's annoying a lot of people....
