The higher res is done with pixel doubling, and will be very low quality when compared to a megapixel camera. I found this setting as well. Your results may vary with the use of this feature, don't expect good pictures from it.

What about the 4X zoom? I only see 1x and 2x. Am I missing something or the 2x is actually 4x?

I found out that the 4x zoom only works with the 160 and 320 quality settings, not 640 or 1280

Since pixel doubling is based on the VGA setting, any feature enabled for the VGA quality will work for the higher res as well. The pixel doubling process causes longer processing time on taking the picture, so it's really not all that practical to use. You might just want to find a good 3.0mp camera, those are getting pretty cheap and are a lot better at the job.

Something you may want to do for experimenting is take a VGA pic zoomed in at 2x, and a 1280 pic not zoomed and compare the quality. Also, take a VGA pic not zoomed, and a 1280 pic not zoomed, then load the VGA pic into a graphics program and double the size and compare quality. You'll see how these features work. The processing the phone does may do some post processing to enha...

well that blows. it should be 4x at all times. or at least it should say on the description "4x zoom only at low resolution". I guess they need to sell and they will say anything.

Always assume the specs provided are max specs. Your phone's battery may last over a week, but don't count on it unless it never gets used. The camera itself is a VGA camera, not a megapixel camera, so they don't mention the megapixel rating in the marketing...it kinda surprises me that stops them though. It's also rated for extended use, but my phone crashes daily.

My old camera phone had the same zoom limitations.

Thanks "Nimdae", I sent a pic to my computer that I took with the 1280 setting, it it looked pretty good, a lot better than it did on the phone.
