Weird thing happened yesterday

I was talking to my friend yesterday and all of the sudden I could not hear him. I tried calling him again and it would not go trough. I thought it was his phone. So I called another friend when I got home and the phone will not make any sound. The keys where mute even when the phone said it was calling I could not hear the ring. My friend said he picked up and could not hear anything even thought the call was connected. I tried calling my phone and only the lights would flash. I had to reboot to get it working again. Do phones have to be rebooted every day?

You should not have to reboot your phone daily, or at all. I also had ringer silencing and keypad muting problems with mine. Check out my response under this forum's "Phone Quality" thread.

I should read more. Damn. I hasnt done it since. I still havent seen the static on the caller id or the black rectangle. I still have about 2 weeks before the 30 days are up. Maybe the new V3 with expandable memory will put the predecessor to shame. If it comes out in 2 weeks I'll give that a try. Otherwise, there better be a firmware upgrade for out z520's.

just exchange for the razr 😁 it's just $100 after $50 rebate - u know u want it 😈 the new razr won't be out 'til next year.

But please, don't sit on the phone waiting on a firmware update or something. i feel a poem:

if the phone is weird and tends to glitch
wait not, or you have no reason to B****

just man up and buy a better phone if you're really dissatisfied

I've noticed various weird problems with my phone. I've had the main menu glitch, requiring a phone reboot. I've noticed videos stopped playing sound (didn't test anything else), requiring a reboot. I've had the phone just drop connectivity, requiring a reboot. I've noticed one day when I was tinkering with the bluetooth connectivity with my laptop and for some reason it started connecting and disconnecting with my laptop.....I couldn't figure out why, so I rebooted the phone. Just yesterday, the mp3 playback kept crashing randomly (it would play a small amount of a mp3 ringtone, then complain of an error occuring while playing and stop playing), and this stopped after rebooting the phone.

I've noticed these problems come up when I play w...

I too am having the sound problems with my phone. I first notice that the general phone GUI is messed up. Then I notice the black background on the Settings menu. And lastly, I can't hear an calls I receive or make.

I wonder what could be causing this, and if it's on all models or just a select few. I too, use Bluetooth to sync contacts and calendars with my PowerBook.

Would it be wise to take it back and try a different phone?

I suggest you do take it back and exchange it. We need to let the Cingular and Sony Ericsson know about these problems.

I'm on my third phone and just yesterday it did the same thing with the menu glitches and ringer going silent. A friend who got a Z520 two days ago already has had the menu animation black-outs. I mainly use the phone for calls and haven't messed with MP3s or synching.

I called Sony support and the rep I talked to said he hadn't heard of these glitches and all he suggested was to do a master re-set of the phone which didn't make sense to me after having three different phones act up the same.

I love the phone otherwise but I'm getting tired of these recurring problems. Unless SE acknowledges and addresses them I'm...

Well, I slowed down playing with my phone, and I think I figured out what's up with the random loss of sound, menu corruption, etc. Twice, now, I have run into a problem where, if these symptoms appear, applications don't run, stating it requires too much memory (not enough available). This is lame because the application I just tried to use is a simple application, with minimal memory requirements, and it has worked perfectly fine several times before. Also, with my current instance of the problem, this is the second time I have attempted a power cycle and it appears to have crashed on shutdown and it will not come back on until I remove the battery, effectively killing power to the cpu and memory (clearing the ram, not the flash), allowing...

I talked to a Cingular rep earlier today and he had no idea about these problems. Whether or not this is factual, I cannot say, but it felt obvious the complaints weren't being heard enough to be a problem. The rep made a note on my account concerning the problems and said he'd see what he can do to relay the information as needed.

I also attempted to contact Sony Ericsson. I first tried the number on their site and what came from the other end sounded horrible. It was loud, sounded overamplified, and turning down the earpiece volume didn't help. I then went to the email form. So far, this form has not worked. I've tried several times throughout the day. It seems the software on the phone is not the only buggy software Sony Ericsson needs...

I got a message through to Sony Ericsson and got an auto response. Later in the day, I got a very generic response stating there are no firmware updates at this time (they didn't even inquire what version of the software I'm running, how do they know I'm running the latest?) and that I should call them (on their crappy sounding phone system) to discuss further. This isn't sounding to promising. I think I'm gonna go ahead and start shopping for a new phone.

Interesting theory... it does sound logical and explains why I'm on my third phone and experiencing the same problems with each. I'm doing as you suggest and rebooting every morning and so far I've only had a menu glitch once, but it's a hassle having to do that with a phone that you expect better performance from.

I've already contacted Cingular and Sony Ericsson, and it bears repeating that if we all speak up as we experience these problems then a fix or replacement could be on the way. Otherwise, as much as I would hate to give up this phone, I would have to go with another model.

Lots of folks are now reporting these problems:

http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/message?board.i ... »

FYI, Cincinnati Bell pulled the Z520a from their market because of these types of problems. Cingular and SE seem to still be in denial.

I'm personally on my second one, but I need a phone that doesn't die at random. As much as this phone is perfect from the features and form factor point of view, if it doesn't receive calls reliably, I can't stand for it.

It's a pity. I've owned 6 different SE phones and this is the first one that has really had issues.
