problem with whiteout flicker on opening flip?

I just got the phone yesterday and noticed that each time I flip the phone open, it briefly flickers an all-white screen and then goes blank for a split second before stabilizing to the default background/standby mode. For those who have this phone, is this typical? Thanks...
