What does letter "G" mean?

The G is visible when the phone detects the presence of a GPRS signal. This means your phone is telling you that you can connect to the internet at that time. Think of it as a modem light indicator... without that G, you can't download ringtones, etc. It's just another signal indicator, except instead of bars, you either have service or you don't. Expect to see the G when you have a higher amount of bars.

Is that only on the x497?

I don't have that on my x495 on the T-Mobile network, and never needed it.
