Anyway I could permanently leave the front-screen-back-light on?
I have SGH-X497 and once that thing goes off...totally impossible to read what time it is and stuff..I always have to open the phone.

I don't believe there is a way to leave it on (it would sap battery life anyway), but I found out from another site that there is a way to activate the external display backlight without opening the phone. On the left side of the phone is the black volume rocker... you know how holding the "Down" part of it silences the phone when closed? Well, if you hold the "Up" part of the volume rocker with the phone closed, it activates the external display so you can see it without opening the phone. Just hold down for a second or two, and voila!
