W600i- how to charge the battery properly

I just got this phone and to me a new battery should last a couple of days without having to re charge. To me it seems that I have to charge it too frequently. When I first got the phone cingular sent me a paper saying to charge the battery for 8 hours before using it for the first time. I only charged it until the battery said it was full. Does anyone know what is the correct way to charge a li-polymer battery. Can I get a new battery without have to get a refurbished phone. Any help is appreciated
Thanks

I have had a couple of times since I got my phone that the battery just seemed to die way to quickly, like when I charged it one afternoon, went to bed that night, woke up the next morning and it was almost dead, without ANY use. I assume at times like that, the phone was sitting in a location where it just couldn't find a signal and scanned continuously for one. I had other times it goes for days, with lots of use and seems to last a long time...

Good luck!
