Yes, for people like you who want:

camera
PTT
UMTS
QVGA
color sub-LCD
expansion slot,

it definitely sucks.

For those of us who have no need for any of the above mentioned crap...pfft.

Your comments are worthless. Do you actually think every phone needs to have every option available. Samsung has a seperate PTT phone. I personally like the grayscale outside display, it is easier to read outdoors. There won't be a lot of UMTS phones until the network covers enough markets also. There will never be a phone that has every possible feature you listed. And if a manufacturer did I don't think Cingular would ever carry it. All this phone is basically for is text messaging. Cingular wants to raise their ARPU and this phone will help them do that.

i agree this phone sux. it is BYFAR the most ugly phone cingular has ever offered, I bed it will be way overpriced, and a low seller. I always thought cingular had such nice looking phones, what were they thinking!!!
Im ashsmed to have cingular as my provider 🤭

Well from what I heard for a smart phone the price wull be blow teh $300 price. For some think not having the other things is not a good thing. How about when you need some that is just right with out the rest of the crap. My phone gets taken away at places that I visit because it has a camera. I am fine with EDGE as no need fo UMTS. Don't think that I hate moto because I have several Razrs, several V6xx, the A780 and also teh SE P910. I think this one will serve me just right for teh purpose of use and not having to carry my outdated IPAQ. I would rather have this than uying a new Ipaq for more.

Beej... You're absolutely right. If there were a phone out there with all of those great qualities, it's guaranteed that Cingular wouldn't pick it up. I don't think any carrier in the US would pick it up.

I respect the fact that this phone apparently doesn't work for you, but what do you want for a $200 phone?

I need a phone without a camera (can get into private screenings, govt. buildings, museums, green rooms, etc. with camera phones).

PTT phone users irritate me beyond words. (hate being forced to listen to others walkie talkie conversations).

3G isn't everywhere (or fast) yet.

Does anyone know if this phone truly sucks? Doesn't do what it says it will do...or performs poorly?

Which one???

I'm basically looking for something with a QWERTY keyboard (that at least has EDGE) so I can respond to email without tapping it out on my number pad. (Didn't like the Treo 650 or any of the PDA first...phone second devices). Decent web surfing ability would be nice as well.

When the 850 band Nokia 9300 comes out, I'll probably buy that monster and be fairly happy with it as a laptop replacement for short trips. It would be nice to have a phone with easy email use that fits in my pocket though.

I used this phone when the samsung rep came to my job and it is not a bad phone at all. It would be nicer if it did have a camera and an expansion slot, but Im suprised that samsung even has bluetooth in it so its cool. The keyboard can get a little confusing, it has a lot going on. But I liked the size and the screen on it alot.

The Nokia 6682 sounds like it would be good for you. There is an available Bluetooth keyboard or it.

Do you have this phone??? Cuz if you did you'd know that you CAN'T email when the phone is opened to landscape/qwerty position. The phone was a great concept that didn't really work out. Come on Samsung

I agree with you. You can't get into many gov't or corporate facilities with a camera phone and this has the QUERTY keyboard for text and e-mail. The bluetooth on it makes it a phone that would work for me. I don't need a camera on a phone and if I don't have a camera or an MP3 player as part of the phone, I really don't need an expansion card. The target audience for this phone should appreciate it. Target audience being business persons like managers and engineers and marketing execs that need high-speed capable, BT capable, and ease of texting capability for e-mail use while out of office. Looks like Samsung hit the nail on the head for those people, and at $200, it is way more affordable than a Blackberry or a Treo. 🙂

I agree, the phone doesn't have everything so it's not for everybody. I personally would love to have a qwerty keyboard so I'm going to check out this phone. I have an ipod nano so I don't need an mp3 player or anything like that. Plus, I work in IT with a large bank and camera phones aren't allowed into our datacenters. This would be a great "work" phone while I use my RAZR any other time.

I have one of these and it looks pretty damn nice in person. Sleek, flat, and different from nearly every other flip out there. Every single person who has seen it came away impressed. Also, a Samsung with BT is rarer than hen's teeth at this point, so that's a nice step forward....

Sure it doesn't have everything, but it isn't trying to be everything to all people. Many people think the Sidekick is an ugly worthless pile, but others love it. To each their own....

QWERTY and email and IM client. Bluetooth and 5 HOUR talktime. The outside color display pfft! greyscale lcd is more battery efficient. Samsung quality with all the key features. I CAN'T take a camera phone in to work! This is perfect! it also has Samsung's voicemode via VoiceSignal for VOICE TO TEXT

How is the "advanced voice recognition including dictation"? I don't understand why it has a QWERTY keyboard if you can dictate directly to text... 😲

Well I can understand having both. You can dictate while driving for example and you can text with keyboard while in library for example 😉

You can't dictate text in Landscape mode. Only in regular flip mode.

You gotta figure in places where its very noisy the voice recognition isn't going to work. Its nice to have a full qwerty keyboard when I'm at a club trying to tell someone exactly where I am inside. Plus poeple come up to you and ask about the phone.

You folks need to realize that you CAN NOT email from landscape mode either... you can send test messages, but not email... so if that's why you want this phone, don't get it... also, this phone DOES NOT have speakerphone... just so you know.
