I got the PM-8200 for free through a promotion...and I personally hate the reception...I read all these reviews about how great the reception is for the 8200...but I personally know it sucks...I will have 2 out of 4 bars on a major highway...my dad who has the VM-4500 has 4 bars...why this is in the MM-8300 forum is because I want the MM-8300....but I have 2 questions...DOES the MM-8300 have a green or blue keypad? the 8200 has green and I think its ugly verses the VM-4500's blue keypad...and the second question is should I just keep the free 8200 which I hate most of it...or should I go with the MM-8300?

P.S. I dont care about spending 150+ on the 8300 as long as someone thinks its a phone worth doing that for...and please no replies re...

I don't own the 8300 but I plan on buying it. It has a green keypad. I have heard a few people say reception was better 😉

sanyo was forced to change the way their phones displayed signal strength. their phones do get better reception then all the rest of them out there, its just that now they have to fall in line with everyone else when displaying signal strength. if your dads phone was on the new system he would register two bars as well its just that two bars on a sanyo will be stronger than two bars on say a samsung, and you will have service in areas where other phones won't have any. i am constantly in areas where i have no bars with my 5600 and i carry conversations without any problems with dropping calls. now if you were constantly dropping calls when you had two or three bars then i would say that you have a problem with signal strength.

The 4500 and 8200 share the exact same service modes, as well as being from the same manufacturer. If your dads 4500 works better then there is something wrong with your phone. My friend who has the 8300 says that the reception is even better than the 8200 however and upgraded his from the 7400.

Didnt hear about the thread that underwood posted. It makes sense what he is saying as the 4500 has been around much much longer than the 8200. Shoot the 4500 was in the days of the 8100...

Summary: Buy the new Sanyo 8300. It is the best sprint phone I have found.

I just bought the Sanyo 8300 last night. It has the best reception of any Sprint phone that I have owned. Reception is the top factor for me when I buy a phone since my home and work are in borderline areas. I have owned the Sanyo 8200, 8100, and 4900. The 8300 is a huge improvement in reception versus the 8200 and 4900. The 8300 works in areas of my office where you cannot ever get a sprint connection with the 8200.

At one point 2 years ago, I actually bought the best phone of all the Sprint manufactures. At the time the Sanyo 4900 was the only phone that provided better reception. I would say the 8200 and 8100 are similar to the 4900.
