Anybody ever figure out if you could transfer pics, mp3s for ringtones, games, etc. without having to use VWs ripoff get-it-now service? Like say via a USB cable?

Yes you can transfer photo's, mp3's for ringtones, don't know about games or the usb part, but a text package covers the cost of the transfers through fun for mobile. 🙂

I purchased the USB cable and Motorola Mobile phone tools 3.25 and got them yesterday. Windows XP picks it up as a Motorola USB modem and won't install specific drivers to work with Mobile Phone tools. It will sync calendar and contacts, but the media will not transfer using the tools. Anyone have ideas? I would rather not have to msg myself ringers.

Second question anyone know size limits and formats for ringtones and pictures? This is my first MMS enabled phone and would like to customize it a bit, without using GetitNow.

Thanks.

I, too, have the same question. How do you transfer pictures and music via USB cable to the phone? I have phone tools. Do I need to purchase the "Phone Tools Deluxe" from Moto, or is there another way.

Make sure you do live update to 4.xx How to enable MPT's Multimedia Studio for your V325 **Enable Ringtones**

--------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

I figured out how to put ringtones on my V325.

Do what it says to do on there. The drivers on that site do work. I have only tried to enable Multimedia Studios, I don't know if anything else works.

I am using MPT 4.x. I am sure it works on v3.3 and 3.28

When in MPT. Push F6. Click the communications tab and then click Change Modem. Click next, next again(make sure its on Motorola USB Modem), on the next page, check the box that says "Do not automaticly detect the driver." Click next. Click on M...

You were able to sync outlook calendar? Do you have a v323 or v325. I have the v325 w/ MPT 4.x and have been going around and around with VZW because the calendar sync option on the phone is disabled. Does anyone have any idea how to activate it? It was one of the main reasons I picked this phone and now it does not work because of the VZW UI. Motorola said VZW had problems and motorola had nothing to do with the disabling of the sync. Other than that I do like the phone.

I would also like to be able to get music clips onto this phone to use as ringtones without having to go through that %$*!@% GetItNow. For me, it's as much about SELECTION as it is about the cost.

I hope there's someone out there with some good suggestions for those of us who have this phone...

Thanks in advance!

can be done. you need to do a seem edit to enable this option in MPT. See Howard Forums (do 'V325 ringtone' search)

What's a "seem edit" and what's MPT? Sorry to be so tech-stupid...

It's actually not hard. You need a usb cable. MPT is the motorola phone tools software. PST is the motorola phone programming tool. A seem is part of the software programmed into the flash memory of the phone. It is re-writable, and used to enable/disable functions/features of the phone. Verizon sets a bit in one of the seem files to disable transferring files over usb. They do this to force customers to use get it now and messaging. All you have to do is follow the instructions and change one bit from to 1. This enables transferring of audio files. Unfortunately it still wont transfer pics. I think this has something to do with the verizon ui which also screws up the calendar.

Is it possible to sync the calendar between the phone and the PC? I've tried setting the modem to a V323m and it only works sporadically at best. In fact, the last time I tried using this approach it garbeld the date and time data between the phone and PC.
