How can I turn off the auto format of the mem card

I want to use multiple memory cards for my Virgin Mobile Kyocera Slider Sonic. The problem is that it auto-formats (reformats) the card each time it's inserted - wiping out all the stored information on it.

How can I turn-off the auto format feature so I can use multiple memory cards?
