I just got a 1 gig mini sd card for my 9800 i had the phone format it and put some music in the mp3 folder and sounds in the sound folder and pics in the pic folder. When i put the card back in the phone and try to launch any of those folders the mp3 or pics whatever it says initializing for a sec then the phone reboots and and it just does that any time i try to access it. Any ideas people?

What do you mean it was not made for supporting 1gig it was made supporing MINISD standard it should not matter the size this isnt like 4 years ago when large sizes of memory werent available. The 1gig card was out before this phone the phone says it supports minisd so am i wrong to think it should. i mean why wouldnt it what does size have to do with it.

I just ordered a 1 gig miniSD chip so in 2 days when i get the chip i will update you if it works or not. But atm i am on hold with verizon to see if the 9800 supports the 1 gig.

while i am holding here is a good site to get the miniSD cards, they are really cheap and a lot cheaper than best buy...

Verizon just told me that they called up LG and LG confirmed that the 9800 supports the 1gig miniSD card and if you had a problem contact Lg at 1-800- 793- 8896.

So the answer is yes, the 9800 does support the 1 gig miniSD card

Hey,

It usually has to do with how the card was formatted. What you should do is when you hook the card up to a reader for the computer, erase it (reformat, whatever). Then turn your phone off. PLug in the 1GB minisd card into the phone. Power on the phone. Once on, hit a few keys than power off. Once off, take the card out and plug into your reader. Install all the mp3s you want (making sure that they are not in subfolders; they must be directly placed into the mp3s folder on the card). Once done, take out the card and plug back into your phone (making sure its off). Then turn the phone back on, go to my mp3s and it should work.

I did exactly what you said except I am trying to play videos from the card and nothing happens. I checked the memory on the card and it shows there is content on the card however it is also saying that nothing is saved to the card!

The first person mentioned putting the card in the phone, formatting, then putting files in the folder. Is this done just by hooking the phone up to a computer via a USB cable?

Also, does the phone support movie types? Specifically, if I get a 1gb card, can I put a tv show I've downloaded on it for my viewing? If so, is it restricted to certain types of videos?

I was really hoping it could handle shows and stuff like that otherwise its a very small card just to use the MP3 option for ringtones as my MP3 player I have now is fine for music.

See my post above on formatting the card.

As far as movies go, yes you can put a whole movie/tv show on the card and access it from My Flix. The only format supported us called .3g2 and is a derivative of the MPEG-4 format.

What you need to do is take whatever you want to convert (AVI, MPEG2, MOV) and convert it to .3g2. Fortunately, this is easy to do if you have Quicktime Pro. Quciktime Pro supports the ability to export a file into this .3g2 format. However, getting the file into a format quicktime can understand is not necessarily a cake walk...if you have a mac, i found this great program called handbreak. It can take a dvd inserted, rip it into an MPEG-4 format, then all you do is use quicktiime to convert it into the .3g2 form...

Card readers run cheap -- $15 to $30 depending on how many options you get for it. I think mine was like $20 and it has support for seven different types of memory devices. Look for one that reads Secure Digital -- as you will get a SD mini to SD (reg.) adpater when you buy your SD MINI card....or at least you should.

the issue is not the size of the memory card, i had the same problem with a 256 mb mini sd card (see my review of the phone). I have a 128 mb card as well and that one is working with no problems so far. Looks like the first software bug has been discovered...

Hi! I know this thread is old, but I just had this problem. Tried putting mp3s on my 256 card and the phone rebooted whenever i tried to access it! I think it might be how many songs i put on. I put on nearly 200 mb. What I did was I just deleted all the songs using my pc and added them slowly 25 mb at a time. Each time I tried the card in the phone to see if it worked. And somehow I was able to store all 200 mb of songs with no prob. Its a little strange actually!

1 gig mem cards should work..i have one and did experience the same problem you did a couple of times, but it only happened when i had a incomplete or glitch mp3 file i was trying to add. My suggestion is to remove files slowly and by process of elimination try to figure out which file on ur card is causing you problems. Trail and error, may take a while but it should solve ur problem..
