LG-V came out last September. The phone is really solid and works incredibly well. Unless they plan on making it larger and more PDA like, I see no reason for an update so soon. Motorola Q is coming out next week though and we've been hearing about that for 10 months. So, special phones take a long time to evolve. Also cingular still sales the older LG VX9200 so go figure. I wouldn't wait if I were you. S

I attended a vendor fair a few weeks ago and spoke with an LG rep. He told me that Verizon's LG lineup will be completely new by the end of the summer, with the exception of the V. He told me there is nothing in production now and there doesn't appear to be anything on the drawing boards either. He said the only thing to expect with the V is a drop in prices by the end of the year. If you didn't notice, Verizon online ran a special earlier this week buy one V get the second free. He said that by xmas '06 the V will be affordable to all customers.

Do any of these new phones in the LG verizon lineup include a full QWERTY keyboard cause thats' mainly what ill be buying the 9800 for. For texting, maybe some emailing and general typing. Also for the bluetooth as well.

No new qwerty keyboards. They are basically updating their current lineup.

New 3300 will have a caller ID Screen
New 5200 will have Bluetooth
New 8100 will be sleeker.

The trend also seemed to be that Verizon is going back to "original" cell phone coloring of all black or all silver.

What do you mean that LG's trend for Verizon is that they are going back to the "original" cell phone coloring of all black or silver? They've always been like that although the 8100 has the blue on the top but thats about it. Also if i am correct here, the 9800 Is the ONLY phone in the store w/ the Lithium Polymer battery which means that you can charge it over night and not worry about overcharging the battery correct? The battery automcatically detects full charge and shuts off charging.

Where'd you hear that info about the battery? The store reps are always throwing it in our face that you'll kill your battery if you over-charge it...now of course I don't give them that much credit, although I think they were right with my v710. The manual said you could charge it overnight and not damage the battery but my battery needed to be replaced w/i a year b/c I was just putting it on the charger before going to bed.

The 9800 uses a Lithium Ion polymer battery.
Lithium Polys must be protected from:
1. Overcharging,
2. Over discharging,
3. Charging at too rapid a rate,
and
4. Exposure to over temp (either ambient or by overcharging).

Battery chargers for Lithium Polys should be specifically designed for use with lithium Polys.
Most Lithium Poly batteries have self protection circuits built in to prevent overcharging but these circuits do not protect from too rapid a charge.
So, to make a long story short you really want to beware of third party chargers -- especially those designed to "work across a wide array of phones" as there is a good chance they are designed for NiCad or NiMH batteries and can (and will) kill Lithium Polys by rapid chargi...

So with that in mind, anyone know what sort of auto charger verizon sells on their website under vx9800 accessories?

I think you can be fairly certain the ones being provided directly from Verizon are either re-branded LG chargers or other chargers rated for Lithium Polys.

I just got off the phone with both Verizon and LG.
Verizon rep informed me that the reason it is listed as out of stock online is because a new version called the vx9800m will be coming out "soon" and so the 9800v is being phased out.
Called LG to find out whether the new model will be substantially different and how soon it will be available, the rep there informed me that they are not aware of a new model.
Now that I have conflicting information from the companies, I have decided to wait for a few months to see what happens.

I SPOKE WITH VERIZON YESTERDAY AND THE REP MENTIONED THAT THERE WOULD BE A 9800M BEING SOLD. SHE SAID THEY WOULD BE IN STORES WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS. THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THAT THEY ARE DOING THIS PHONE LIKE THE 8100, MAKING THE 'M' VERSION WITH THE VCAST MUSIC ALREADY INSTALLED. SHE SAID IT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO GET THE SOFTWARE FLASH. I DOUBT VERIZON WOULD MAKE A NEW VERSION OF THIS WHEN THE 9900 WILL BE COMING OUT SOON.

I just don't understand what newer featurs the supposed 9900 will have because like I've said, the 9800 has pretty much everything on it and the new software which has Music On Demand which is good. I mean as it is, the 9800 is step below a full PDA. I can't wait to get the 9800 in a few weeks.

The V2 which Verizon calls the LG vx 9800m is the same phone but modified with all the Verizon blocks. On the original V, I could download music from my computer to a mini SD and use my V as an MP3 player. Now, I cannot do that. I can only play music downloaded from GETITNOW or through Verizon. There are a lot more appelets on the phone and it seems quicker to respond. The images from the camera seem to not be as clear as before. I am really upset about the music thing. The reason I bought the original V was for the ability to listen to the music I already owned without having to buy it for the MP3.

Change the color (maybe a gunmetal or all black version--I hate light silver personally) and make the damn thing thinner! This phone is too thick and I'm sure they can shave some weight off of it. Look at the cingy nokia 9300...This phone is amazing it feels even better when you hold it in your hand. This is what I would expect LG to build.

I can't go to the link because I am at work and well they do not allow that. Are there any pix because last I checked it just showed the back of the phone w/ the battery off and doesn't have any of the specs. So I guess I'm asking what are the details that you speak of besides the fact that it exists.
