Question about 1 gb memory card

Wait so let me get this straight a 1gb memory card works with the phone.But the phone will only read 512 of it or everything on the card?

A 1 gig works fine and allows for the whole 1 gig to be used (minus, of course the normal amount lost in formatting...).
