I'm the one who's trying to change my phone to either vx9800 from LG or a970 from Samsung. I like both designs of those phones, but each phone has different pros and cons.

I like the A970's design and camera. It had 2x megapixel camera in it and it also supports 2x optical zoom. Moreover, it has the camcorder feature too!

I like VX9800 because it has cool speakers and screens, keyboard and stuffs like that.

I really can't make up my mind. Would somebody please help me with this?
Well, I think I'm not going to change my phone until the Christmas... but I really can't decide one. Will Verizon have a sale on one of these phones on Christmas season?? PLZ help me!! 😕

I'm in the EXACT same situation as you. I am due for an upgrade and I really want the 9800 but the camera and size on the Samsung make me want it. FYI, I LOVE photography! I have played with the 9800 and I loved it!!! The Samsung I tried was just a dummy, but it's the same size and a little wider than the VX6000. The 9800 is the 6000 up to the antenna and a little wider. In my opinion, I really want the 9800. I think the pictures will be better (don't call me crazy about the 0.7 Megapixel difference), and also I want a miniSD because they have 1GB, and microSD only has up to 512 MB for now. I love LG, and I think the 9800 is probably the best choice if you don't really care about size and weight that much, even though the 9800 and a970 are o...

Pictures from camera phones sucks. (note the period) If you like photography that much to worry about a .7 megapixel difference, get a free phone from Verizon and buy a digital camera. (note the period again) 🙂

After owning the 9800 for two weeks now I can tell you that this phone is nice if you use it for what it is meant to be used for. Text and mobile web. If you don't send at least 10 text messages a day, then the 9800 is not worth it to you....the phone is nice, it is a bit heavy and a bit large. The MP3 player is nice, but while you are listening to music that's IT, you CANT send a message or a call or anything. The VCAST thing is cool, but it's newness wears off fast and at $15 a month, its just not worth it to me. The camera ...

I text alot but thats not even the reason i decided to keep this phone its actually a very good phone. gets great reception better than my vx7000 and the vx8000 i tried out. the ear volume is great as well. sometimes when companys try to make a phone that is something else like the blackberry or sidekick its good at that but it sucks as a phone but this one turned out well.

I just purchased two phones one for me and one for my husband. I opted for the 9800 for the web capability, i need the keyboard for typing. He opted for the a950 for the MP3 player and small size. I know it is NOT the 970, but I will tell you that the 9800 gets far better reception than the 950 If the 970 has an antenna, perhaps it will not be an issue. Voice quality on the 9800 is also much better than the 950. callers sound hollow on the 950. Also, I think the 9800 voice system is very easy to use and the female voice is pleasant and clear, not computer sounding.

You've read all the other comments. I suggest in addition to those, you also consider the comparative physical size of the microSD and the miniSD cards and see which one you favor handling.

I have the 9800 but was trying to figure out which phone to get for a while. It was a choice between the a970 or9800. I played with the a970 for a little bit in the store and felt that the a970 would have been a bvad choice. The reason is the way the clamshell is set up, when you try to open the phone with one hand (the right one) the phones swivel moves right away and that made me very uncomfortable. This is not the first samsung to have a swivel clamshell design and from what I remember of the last one, it felt just as cheap and I remeber them being broke or really bent out of shape.

The more moving parts, the more opportunity for breakage.

So I now have the 9800 and I am extremely happy about it.

Hope this helps.
