I was at Verizon yesterday so play with the new LG VX 9800 and well ill be honest with you, its a bit weird to get used to. Due to the phone being a "flip out" desing and converting into a full QWERTY keypboard type of phone/ all in one multimedia device, it took some getting used to the keyboard. I'm not up for my new every 2 yet, but I am still trying to get used to this new phone. To those of you here that already have the phone though, a couple of questions for you. 1. WHen the phone is closed, the speakerphoen isn't automatically activated meaning you are able to put the phone up to your ears and talk on it yet the second the phone is opened up the speak activates. Why? Also, for text messaging on the inside w/ the phone flipped open, ...

My question is: I'm just making sure that the information that I have gathered so far about this phone is correct as far as the speaker phone and typing methods are concerned. Also, when viewing text messages, you can view it from the outer display and then flip it open to reply back to a message kind of like on the LG VX 8100 right?

When the phone is closed, correct-no speakerphone. The reason it goes to speaker phone when you open it is because when opened, you can't exactly hold it up to your ear like that and talk into it. Makes sense to me. As far as text when it's open, there is a SYM key in orange to make symbols if you need to, and yes, it's in abc mode because it's a KEYBOARD. When it's closed, then it just uses text like a regular phone.

Ok thanks for that reply! That's kind of what I thought. Like i said, im not up for ny new every 2 yet but this is how i know a lot about verizon phones; i research them this way. Is there a way to do speech to text on the 9800 for text messages at all?

sorry for so many posts and questions but how are you supposed to take a self-portrait of yourself on this phone because with the phone flipped open, your hand is covering up the camera lens and with the phone closed, its just a regular "candy-bar"styled phone. Just curious. 😁 🙂
