That is the question. How do i get mp3 ringers? Please don't tell me to do a search. I have. If you want to point me to a thread that answers that question please do, but provide the thread title.
SO HOW DO I DO CUSTOM RINGTONES?

Thanks all

Well, there is a program called Bitpim that you need to use to put MP3 ringtones on your phone along with either a data cable or a Bluetooth USB adapter, but not sure if this will work with the 9800 yet. I have successfully done this with the 8100, but tried tonight, unsuccessfully to do it on my friend's 9800. Even the newest version of Bitpim doesn't list the phone therefore doesn't recognize it. Not sure if it will soon or in a newer not yet out version or not, but as of right now I don't believe you can, by any means, put MP3 ringtones on your phone except via GIN. Wish I had better news for ya.

Dont know why it didnt post all of it....try again...

Here are the locations for important files on the VX9800:

Brew16452lk --- All uploads go somewhere in here.
mf --- My Flix
mp --- My Pix
ms --- My Sounds
mr --- My Ringtones

right click on the one you want and select new file. (I noticed with BT sometimes it give an error, but if you try a 2nd time it works).

After that is complete go to:

dload --- This contains file size and information about flix/pix/sounds/ringtones

There will be a files very suggestively named, such as: my_ringtone.dat and my_ringtonesize.dat. (These files contain info for the phone on ringtones, so they need to be updated).

Basically delete the corresponding file to the type you entere...

This is from Howard Forums and is from an older version, you no longer need to delete files from the file system. You don't want to mess with the filesystem.

Does anyone know what "My Sounds" does exactly? I used to own an LG 6100, and the sounds you recorded or that came pre-loaded could be assigned as ringtones. It appears that they have no function now, other than being played back (like playing back a voice note you made). Is there an easy way to assign them as ringtones or alarm sounds, etc.?

You CANNOT assign My_Sounds as ringtones, unfortunately. Your exactly right, the only purpose is playing them back like a voice note you made.

The old 6000's would only let you assign a recorded sound as a ring tone if the tone was in your mms inbox or outbox. Take a pic of whatever and add a sound to it. Then send it to a random number but don't let it complete, hang up on it so it fails to send. when it asks you if you want to save to outbox, choose yes. You can then play the tone and save it to the tones place. THEN you can choose that tone as a ring tone.

You cannot do that on the 8100, 9800 or any newer version LG. That option is no longer available on the LG phones.

Is this going to be true of any new phone with the new standard Verizon UI or is it just going to be on LG phones?

Actually, I'm using a Bluetooth USB adapter instead of a cable, but if you want to use a cable, you need to get the one that is for the 7000 or 8000. It will work w/ the 9800. There isn't one available specifically for the 9800.

I got an email from LG saying that their 9800 USB cable should be out by the 17th. of Oct...but from what I have been reading Mary is correct and the ones that work with the 8100 should work on the 9800 as well.

When i load stuff on the mini-sd, i take the battery off so that the phone will reinitialize.
I havent had it do it on it's own, however.
If it only did it once i would expect it was trying to train you. lol

Mary...which Bluetooth USB Adapter do you use?
Do you use it with your laptop or desktop or both? Any problems? Do you recommend the adapter over the cable?
Thanks!
