You can use the MP3 player while the phone is closed. Also, while the speakerphone doesnt naturally work when phone is closed, if you are playing MP3s, it will work through the stereo speakers when closed. IS it muddled? Well how about it sounds better when it is open and the sound can travel freely. Even when it is closed, the sound is good - however, not sure why you would want to listen to the MP3s when the flips is closed. You either want to have stereo headphones or your gonna want to put it on your desk or somethign and play MP3s - in which case you would have the phone open.
