Why isn't Windows Mobile 5.0 on this phone?

I am perplexed why the i830 is NOT being released with Windows Mobile 5.0. Is there a reasonable explanation? Can a user install 5.0?

A phone this complex has a very long development cycle, so it's as simple as the OS version was finalized before version 5 was available.

Sure they could have gone back and upgraded it, but that would have meant extra development time and all kinds of re-testing that would have pushed the release back many months. They have to have deadlines for things like that or phones would never be released.

No, it's not user-upgradeable. OS upgrades like that currently have to be created by the manufacturer for that specific device and then tested by the carrier.

I was told by Samsung that the i730 is technically upgradeable, so I assume the i830 is as well. However Samsung and Verizon have to decide whether it's worth developing and testing s...
